Default Parade Day in Spanish Springs

I am so pleased that a Village group, Resident Parade Committee decided to organize to continue parades after someone else decided to quit parades. While I have participated in many parades in Ohio, I was very moved by the tremendous enthusiasm of the Village crowds. It was an honor for me to march with my fellow Vietnam Vets this day and to be thanked by all for our service.

I am glad they still have the parades too, although I must admit we went for the first three or four years and then chose to miss the crowds. The Family ran the parades for many years and then, as it seems to be their business plan, they sold the Entertainment Department to the folks who had been in charge. Just as they sold many restaurants that had originally been under their domain and they closed the Southern LifeStyles furniture store and rented the space to another furniture vendor.

And I too and our whole family thank you for your service.

yes we Irish were betrayed when the developer ("the Family") suddenly stopped all support for the st. Patrick's Day parades at Spanish Springs and Sumpter landing, but several groups did organize and had the Spanish Springs parade anyway, and now they have had I think 4 annual parades. Kudos to the villagers whos worked to make it so. it's a great event for a town of older folks.

I'm disgusted that they continue to have these events that disrupt our lives and make it very inconvenient to get to shopping area or go through the squares. I needed to go over to Publix today and it was a horror show. I turned down several streets only to find them blocked off. After making about four u-turns, I got to the Publix parking lot and had to park a quarter of a mile away. You wouldn't believe where people were parking golf carts.

I find it hard to believe that people still attend these events. When we first moved here we went to a few of them. After waiting in line for eons to get food then not being able to find a place to sit to eat because of all these ignorant people who park themselves in the chairs meant for the restaurant customers, we quit going.

I've seen enough parades in my lifetime. I don't care to see any more.

These have to be people who are new to The Villages that attend these things. I'd bet most residents that have been here for a few years have given up.

Please stop the insanity! End these parades and celebrations!

Having a bad day?

So you were new once and went to these celebrations....dont you think the newbies have the right to enjoy these events before we become cranky like you?

Secondly why are you not savvy enough to avoid these horrible events, maybe you could have done a better job avoiding the traffic or better yet just stay out of the way while the newbies are having a good time!
Cheers

I left my driveway and got as far as Rio Grande pool and found myself in a parade. I circled around SS, past Publix and Winn-Dixie, went thru Rio Grande gate and found a parking spot in my driveway. The parade I was in lasted one hour. I left my house at 2:30. (This trip was by car.)

We can't wait to move into our new house in The Villages. We love parades. Maybe in 10 years we will be as grumpy as you !

Default Just stay away

There is always plenty of notice about these events. When they occur just stay away from these areas. I think there are 8 other Publix in TV to go to. We should cancel an event that provides thousands of people happiness because it causes you a few hours of inconvenience.

Doc, I am 99 and 44/100 % sure that your post is a parody. It's a good one, too. Anyway, thanks for the smile this morning.

And if I am wrong........Oh, my!

(By the way, we decided at the last minute to go out and about and wade into that sea of green where we had fun and some surprisingly really good corned beef and cabbage from a booth. We sat on the steps of The Sharon and had our lovely dinner. -- I was a little confused though because I had seen those two people on stilts a while back........and I thought they were German.)

I think it's the walkers from the Halloween event.

I've lived here 8 years and yesterday's parade audience was the largest I've seen. Loved it all. Kudos to the people who did all of theplanning. The staging area was incredibly organized. The entertainment in the gazebo was super - the Irish band had the crowd going. Dr. Boogie - you didn't really mean it, did you???
