The USDA specifies that a porterhouse must be at least 1.25 inches thick measured from the widest point on the filet, and a T-bone must be 0.5 inches thick. Therefore, every porterhouse is technically a T-bone, but not every T-bone is a porterhouse.

Nobody shops there anymore; it's too crowded!

Something just as criminal happened to me at Winn-Dixie on Trailwinds yesterday. All the signs in the fish case say “previously frozen” but the last six times I’ve been there the majority of the fish is still very frozen piled up in the case. I bought 1 pound of sea scallops for $20 a pound. I got home, I defrosted them, poured all the water off of them from being frozen and now I have 8 ounces of scallops. I am paying $40 a pound for not great sea scallops from a grocery store. I will say something next time I go but I’m sure they won’t care.

I bought some of their fresh fruit salad a few weeks ago, and didn't open the container until about 3 days later, found quite a bit of mold. Not impressed given the price.

Bet the next time you buy scallops you will look more closely at the package to see if it is full of ice,

I recently received an e mail from Fresh Market announcing a Prime Beef Sale (25% off) from Friday 3/18 -Sunday 3/20. I Paid little attention at the time of purchase to the pricing of the 4 Ribeye Steaks which cost me $65.97 after their 25% discount. After returning home I realized that each steak weighed exactly 10 ounces. They were each priced at $21.99 ea., not $21.99 per pound. Since 10 ounces is only .625 pounds, the actual price per pound of these Ribeye Steaks was $2.19/oz multiplied by 16 for an outrageous price per pound of $35.18.

I then went to the Fresh Market website (It'''s Prime Time | USDA Prime Beef | The Fresh Market) and discovered that their advertised price per pound for Prime Ribeye Steaks on the same day was in fact $24.74 / lb.

So, the bottom line is that instead of giving me a 25% discount on their advertised price for this item ($24.74/ lb.) they gave me a 25% discount on the identical item priced at $35.18 / lb. Accordingly, if I had purchased the same four 10 ounce Steaks at their advertised price of $24.74 my total cost would have been $61.85 less 25% or a net total of $46.39 versus the $65.97 price I was actually charged me for the same exact item. A quick subtractions suggests I was overcharged $19.58 based on the actual advertised price for the same item on their website.

Not only is this deceptive, in my opinion, it represents price gouging by offering a discount on a drastically overpriced item ($35.18/lb.) when compared to their own advertised pricing of ($24.74/lb.) for the same item.

Yes, I reported this to FM in writing and was essentially told, tough cookies.

I am posting this as a public service in the hope that others won't be deceived by similar future offers from Fresh Market. PS, I no longer shop there!
Unfortunately, shyster businesses continue to exist because consumers enable the scumbags to rip us off with various schemes. The way to end this type of debauchery is to stop all trade with these crooks and expose them to everyone you know, both individually and on social media to the masses.

The problem with this approach is that frequently an innocent business gets targeted because of a misunderstanding by the customer. The original message and this quoted reply are perfect examples of that.

According to the OP:
- the steaks were marked $21.99
- there was a 25% off sale
- four steaks were purchased
- the amount charged was $65.97

$65.97 is the price for three steaks ($21.97 * 3 = $65.97). The OP was sold four steaks for the price of three; 75% of the regular price; 25% off; exactly what was advertised.

Where is the shyster-ism? In what way was the OP ripped off? What "scheme" was being used other than giving exactly what was advertised - 25% off?

Several posts, including the original and the quoted reply, have criticized and insulted the store simply because the OP misinterpreted the labeling on package. The OP didn't share a picture of the label but the online listing for the item clearly indicates the price per package and the weight of the meat in the package. What more could the business have done to make the customer aware?

At least in this case the Fresh Market is not guilty of bad practices, shysterism, or attempting to rip anyone off. Still, several posts have accused them of that. People run for their pitch forks way to quickly these days.

Confirmation bias is real; I can find any number of articles that say so.

You are 100% correct. A knee jerk reaction without reading all the posts.
