The following was posted on the District web site from the July 6, 2015 meeting . Please follow this link for more information on this subject.
http://www.districtgov.org/PDFView/P...20150706pa0201 an excerpt from page 18: Speed Enforcement – Most would agree that excessive cart speed is probably a major factor in the cause of accidents. Neither the District nor the county law enforcement agencies currently have the jurisdictional authority to enforce a speed limit on our paths. To address this limitation, we should investigate what procedures or inter-local agreements could be put in place that would give our sheriff’s department the ability to enforce a speed limit on the paths located within all Districts, as they now have on all county roads. |

Key words " most will agree " and "Probably". I say most "don't agree "and accidents " probably " are from, Lack of attention when driving, not paying attention while driving, too much Mickey's while driving, medical problem, and confussion while driving. I doubt speeding had very little to do with it? So you could "Probably" say it did. How about the facts when golf cart accidents was investigated? Does anybody have them? If so post them so we can ilimate "the Probably?
I could care less either way my cart goes 20 MPH, which is fast enough for me but not for the tee timers. Another thing I am concerned about rules when they pertain to me. I have no control or care who don't follow or abide by traffic laws. Why? I have no authority over rule or law breakers. Course I have few choice words something's to myself. |

I've seen a number of threads on golf carts in TV but I have yet to see the laws or regulations that set speed limits for golf carts (unless I missed it among the many posts). I've seen 20 MPH talked about on the various threads but none of the posts specifically stated the law that set that limit. There is nothing posted on the multi-modal paths and the only speed limits posted on the streets are those for cars. I can only assume that as long as the cart has not been altered after leaving the factory, the speed limit is what the cart will do and if they do not exceed the speed limit posted on the street, tickets cannot be issued. I've used a number of different carts in TV and the highest speed attained on a flat surface was 23 MPH. Since it appears clear that neither the CDD or the sheriff's department has the ability to enforce speed limits on the cart paths, I can only assume that tickets issued for speeding in a golf cart were issued on a street and not on the path.

My first post in this thread was to point out what I have understood as the Wild West flavor of golf cart operation on the multi-modal paths. Again, I was just kidding about golf cart racing on them although there are no enforceable speed limits on the paths currently. County and city roads do have enforceable speed limits for golf carts. I am now reading that multi-modal path enforcement may change in the future one way (my second post) or the other (my previous post).

The developer has the final say on things that happen below 466 and the elected people have the final say about what happens above 466. The State of Florida has the final say about the age of drivers and speed limit of golf carts on public roads. BUT I wouldn't allow a ten year old to drive a cart OR go fast and endanger people because the sheriff will give out tickets on golf cart paths and in the case of a kid that can effect his future drivers license. How things are run here are not how things are run in Ohioor New York or California or Utah, but a lot of smart people live here and are satisfied. Pverview of Florida Laws on operating golf carts. twoplanekid, I think the moderator should block posts from people that simply like to hear themselves talk.
