Default Cool Weather Clothing

We are in the process of preparing our house for sale and de-junking. How much cool weather clothing do we need to keep? Do we need more than a few long sleeves and light jackets, or does it stay cold for more than just a few mornings and evenings? Thank You!

i would guess it depends, somewhat, on your sensitivity to cool/cold weather. we do get frost warnings - and golf courses are known to have delayed starts because of frost! i am sensitive to cold, so i keep sweats and sweaters in my closet.

Default No more sweaters!

I didn't bring any sweaters with me. I decided that once I moved to Florida, I would ditch them. I do have half dozen long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts that I wear when it gets cold out. When the wind blows and its 40 out its cold!

Just remember that you might be visiting colder areas sometime in the future and maybe that heavy coat could be stored just in case. The weather can seem quite chilly some winters and we do have freezes and frost now and then. You won't need clothing as warm as needed for areas with cold winters, probably not need heavy woolen sweaters or slacks....though after a few years here, the temp you start to feel cold at will be different than when living in colder climes.

One thing to remember here, in the summer you may want to put on a light zip up sweatshirt, jacket, etc. when you go INDOORS. The air conditioning may feel really cold when coming in from outdoors.

Made the mistake of getting rid or nearly ALL the winter clothing! Did keep the snow-boots and parka "IF" we'd ever travel north in winter. That being said...the winter of '09/10 was a cold one that made a record!!!! It was darn cold for Florida!!!! Hard frosts and northern winds for a few of the months--not weeks, not days but months!!! So I'd pack accordingly---you can always store in a tote in your attic.

Not golfer is right. Winter of '09-'10 was extremely cold. Since I came from Southern CA, I didn't have very many heavy clothes but I did use a heavy 3/4 coat that I used for when I traveled north and many long sleeved sweaters and sweatshirts and long pants. So don't get rid of all heavy clothes, keep some. Thankfully, we haven't had another cold winter like that, it gets cold but not for months.

I am sorry we gave away a couple of our heavier coats. They would have come in handy in several of the winters we have been here. And they don't carry those kind of coats in the stores down here.

I have kept one winter coat and have used it twice this past winter walking the dog after dark. My friend gave away ALL her winter clothes when they moved to Polk City. Unbelievable. She and I came back to MI for a wedding in April, and she froze her a** off.

Save one each of winter clothing. You might need it, either here inTV or for travels back north.

I think it's all relative. If you are from a northern state 60 degree weather in the winter sounds warm, once you get acclimated to the weather here a 60 degree day can feel almost as cold as a 30 degree day up north

You'll probably need one good medium weight winter coat for the few real cold, windy days and a bunch of lighter sweaters, shirts, vests to "layer" up or down as the day progresses on the more moderate days. Also you might want to consider a shorty wet suit or "wet vest" if you plan to swim or participate in water sports during the winter months. The pools are heated (more or less) but wet skin exposed to 60 or 55 degree weather gets a bit chilly!

The most useful garment I own is a fleece vest to wear over a long-sleeve shirt. When it's really "chilly" that's usually all I need

P.S. don't forget you will need a coat if you're traveling north during the cold weather.

They say your blood thins after awhile. I know mine has. We used to laugh when we saw someone with winter clothes on when its chilly, now that someone is me. Usually by mid-day though, you can shed the heavier clothes.

I have a winter coat I brought when I initially moved to Florida in 1985...use it when I have to go north during the winter...luckily it's a classic style

I always say the difference in seasons is long sleeve t-shirts instead of short sleeve and socks instead of sandals...
