I just contracted with Rafael's to install LPV in my bathrooms, kitchen, and hallway. They will remove the baseboards and paint them before re-installing them. I don't care for quarter round trim. They're installing directly over my sheet vinyl. Make sure they replace the wax rings under your toilets.

If so what to they do, take old out pull the trim work in the room?

If you had this done, who do you recommend that does good work?
We had Roberto’s remove our carpet and replace with LVP. All baseboard was updated or replaced where needed and painted. Amazingly fast and clean process.

I’ve used Roberto’s too, and I was very pleased. Yes, they have to remove the baseboard so the planking will look perfect. They can remove the original baseboard, reinstall it, patch the nail holes, and repaint it (they are VERY good at that), or they can replace it with fancier 6” baseboard. I had it replaced, as the cost was quite modest. They cut the new baseboard on the driveway and spray it with primer. Then they install it using a pneumatic finish nailer, then carefully spray a finish coat of paint. I’m glad I had the upgraded trim installed. It looks great. They do exemplary work.

Sounds like we’re both happy with our floors - I did the exact same thing with my baseboards - really makes a difference over the cheap looking quarter-round. A modest extra expense, but so worth it.

I would take off the vinyl to make sure there's no mold on your subfloor. I found lots of mold when I took off my floors where the windows failed before they were replaced (prior to my purchasing). Same with baseboards, get a look at everything before replacing with new IMO.
I like to do this myself, so can't give install recommendations.

I replaced linoleum with tile in the kitchen, utility room and bathrooms, and carpet with hardwood. Floormasters on301 in Oxford did both and did a great job.

What comes standard in the new builds ? I'm thinking of getting the least expensive flooring (rugs, vinyl) and then replacing it myself. I'd say rug would be the cheapest, but I once had a condo in NY with concrete slab foundation where the rug was glued down. Not the easiest to get up. How are the rugs/vinyl secured to the foundation ? Which would be the least expensive and easiest to replace ?

Great Lakes did my house. They removed the old flooring and repaired a long crack on the concrete plus leveled several spots in living and dining areas. So take out the existing floor and check for imperfections.

LVL is a very easy DIY project if you are planning on floating it....in case that route interests you.
Most people seem to leave the baseboard and just put up quarter round as the baseboard is likely to split. Some people don’t like that look though.

That’s what I did as well. The nicer moulding was also my choice as I really like the look of that.

Michael, if you dont mind me, asking how much money did you spend upgrading your new home in the first year you bought it?
If you had to do it again would you build it from scratch, like some do?

If you are on a build lot you have that option. Spec home are whatever the builder chooses

Default Buyer beware of Robertos/Rafael

Not sure of the ins and outs of installs of LPV/Wood flooring so my issue may be different, but just a heads up to confirm all installation plans in writing prior to purchase. I had no idea that this would be a problem. I had carpet replaced in my home and there are two open areas where 13ft of seams have been visible from day one. I was told "this is normal". I have never seen this and the carpet that was removed never showed seams. It's quite frustrating that the old installation was better. Have no recourse or any idea how to fix. Ordered thru Robertos, installed by Rafael. Any suggestions or ideas how to fix (short of replacing) would be greatly appreciated.

I have used Rafael twice. To replace vinyl floors with wood. Redo entire 2 baths. All this year. Could not be more happy. Fair pricing. Great customer service. Excellent workmanship.

“Do Not” confuse Rafael with Roberto’s. Now two separate companies. Rafael in Oxford off of 301.

Roberto’s no longer customer focused.

As far as carpeting the quality of your carpeting can affect the seam lines not so much the install. In rentals have used cheaper carpeting and you can see the line.
