This clearly sums up the reason for honking. Some people need to be 'scared' into paying attention. Someone lying in a hospital bed after a tunnel cart accident will surely wish they had honked!

Before I had our cart fixed it would back fire as we stopped at the end of the tunnel. That worked really good to let people know we there. The down side is it scared the heck out of everyone including my wife. Now I guess we will need to use the horn !

How many tunnel accidents have there been?
Much ado about nothing?

I'm with Bonnie. When I hear a horn, I automatically think there is a crisis situation. If every driver started blowing their horn when navigating a tunnel, that would be quite distracting. It might prevent an accident, on the other hand it might cause one.

Wow, with so many other choices, please be safe and don't run through tunnels!

The tunnels you are referencing have mirrors positioned for advanced warnings of oncoming traffic. apparently tat is not working.

If some of you believe that it is that much of a hazard you may want to call property management tell tem of the problem and ask that they road bumpers to slow down traffic such as they installed at Bridgeport at Sumter landing.

Honk or No. Either way the simplest solution is for drivers to learn how to drive defensively instead of aggressively. The corner cutting is not limited to golf cart drivers. Most auto drivers either never heard of, or are unable to make a near 90 degree turn at an intersection.

There is no mirror for those traveling east through that tunnel, but there is one for westbound traffic.

The speed bumps are worth thinking about. They would have to put them across both lanes approaching the tunnel from both SweetBay and Caroline and on the eastbound side in the tunnel as you exit. If they don't put one on both lanes, people will cut into the wrong lane to avoid them creating more danger. Just like they had to put rocks on the grass for the same reason at Bridgeport.

Cutting corners , this happened to me this afternoon. I'm stopped on Charlotte Ct waiting to make a right on Pinellas pl and this woman in a black Toyota makes the left onto Charlotte Ct cutting it sharply. This scared the heck out of me. Drivers who behave like that are an accident to happen.

Running thru a tunnel is a very dangerous thing to do. It is extremely hard to see a person in the darkness of the tunnel when going in there from the bright, bright sunlight.

It takes a few seconds for the eyesight to adjust to the darkness in the tunnel, and it only takes a second to hit somebody who's close to the entrance.....and not facing the entering carts so you can jump out of harm's way if need be.
