It would be interesting that of all the burglaries committed, if the front doors had decorative panels or solid. In addition did they have side light panels on each side of the door? This would apply to entries that were made by doors that were kicked in. You could lose the integrity of the door and the strike plate may not be secured to the frame as well.

I understand where Gilchrist is located. What does "unit 219" mean?

This occured in an unoccupied home?

Best idea is a monitored burglar alarm with a loud (125 db) siren both inside and outside the home. No burglar is going to stayin a house with a blaring alarm siren even long enough to grab a jar of coins. The alarm sounds - the burglar skeedaddles!

My understanding, last time we had this rash of burglaries and the police were around here, the problem IS the frame. The pressure on the door, sidelights or panels or not, allows the frame to push out. I was advised to get that bar that goes up under the doorknob and down to the floor by the police. They say without the oomph (for lack of a more intelligent word I can't think of) of the door pushing in, the frame will remain steady. I showed it to the police yesterday and they concurred. We have been using that bar faithfully and have flip-up locks for each slider, also suggested by the police. We are hoping we never lose power tho, when we're out, because we'll never be able to get back in if the garage door fails. Guess we'll just have to break the window in the garage. Which poses another ???...why don't these houses have side garage doors??

I agree with the alarm horn, however i have been to a lot of security seminars and the dirtbags know that the police response is at least one minute and the door delays can be up to 30 seconds.
One and half minutes i can find a lot of stuff in a home just by going into the bedrooms. We have done time test at these seminars and you would be amazed at what you can find in a minute. Unit 210 and 209 is Gilchrist i believe i don't know what 219 is. The unit identifies the subdivisions and streets for the county. and builder.

The Sheriffs office in Sumter County provides a security walk through of your home. We found it informative and the deputy supplied a list at the conclusion with excellent recommendations. Personally, when the time comes I need to place a bar behind my door to prevent entry, I'm out of here.

Unit 219 in Hillsborough .... borders Buena Vista Blvd on its north/west side ... and unit 219 borders Hillsborough Trail on its south side.
There is a golf course on the other sides.
You enter unit 219 off of Hillsborough Trail on Valiant Ct.

Mine does not have a door delay. When it is armed and the door or window opens, the alarm horn sounds immediately indoors and outdoors with 125db of ear piercing sound and flashing light.

Another safety tip, I believe, is to live in the interior part of The Villages and not in the perimetre areas.

Default Another Break In Pinelas

Not to take the attention off this thread... but while reading you might also be interested to know the latter part of last week there was a break in
at the Premier Section of Pinelas. Entry gained from the pool area to the rear of the home...... by breaking glass. I was told nothing was missing at this time to their knowledge as it just occuried, the monitored alarm sounded and apparently caused the culprit to leave immediately... when I arrived there were 5 or 6 police cars marked and unmarked cars and a blood hound being used for tracking...

No further known at this time.

you have to have at least one entry door has to have a delay including a overhead garage door which is also on my alarm system for normal entry. during a night no entry setting when you go to sleep DSC systems can be set with *9 then the master code to have a no entry delay which means it is a instant zone, with in 300 millisecond contact time for the alarm to go off.
