Just an update to my previous post - title "Buying experience at DeLuca Toyota" --- After they said to me that since CARFAX showed "air bag deployed" they could not keep and resell the car, dropping my trade in value by 4200, then I negotiated up to only a 2400 drop, Their used car website now has my 2006 toyota sienna for sale, witha free carfax report visible online, which clearly shows my Maryland ownership before moving to Florida, all of my service records, AND, it shows the airbag deployment (which I have service receipts showing it was never deployed). Point is, they lied to me again and put the car on their lot. Check out the worn hole in the floor mat on the driver's side, that wear hole was in my vehicle and they did not even replace it (pretty cheap). Anyone interested in this car it is a GREAT deal, BUT NOT AT THEIR PRICE. Timing belt and serpantine belt replaced, trans fluid changed out, and have been running with synthetic oil since 2006. BUT, They only gave me 11500 for it, and ripped me off another $864 (see my prior post) so in my mind, they only really gave it a trade-in value of 10,636, so keep that in mind when anyone goes to try to buy it.

As always, it's 'buyer beware' - or in this case, 'seller beware'. Dealerships have the motivation to get your trade for the lowest price possible.............sometimes without much regard to the tactics used.
I once sold a car outright to a dealership - didn't buy anything new from them in the deal. I had virtually new Michelins on it (less than 5k miles): "When was the last time you had the car aligned?" (Never - car drove fine, tires always wearing perfectly - low miles......why align it?) "That will cause a problem with your new tires!" (Really??? ![]() Moral: ALL dealerships will do pretty much whatever it takes to beat you down on the price of your trade. That's the name of their game - to help maximize their profit. It's been that way forever and it's never going to change. Selling your 'old' car yourself is the best way to get the most money out of it in most all cases.......if you want to hassle with it. I don't blame you for not being happy, though. It's generally never a pleasant process in situations like that. Bill ![]() |

I just traded in my 2010 Jeep Unlimited Sahara Wrangler 4WD fully loaded, four door with Electric Drop Down Steps I had put in, leather. nav, etc etc and only 13,500 miles. I had it up for sale for just a little less than I paid for it and got a full price offer right away.
The Toyota dealership (in Seattle) where I was buying a Pre Runner offered me $1500 less that the private sale price I had. But in fact this saved me more because you do not pay taxes on the amount you trade in, so I only had to pay taxes on the difference in the new purchase amout and this turned out I increased my sale to the dealer to more than I would have sold it for privately. My husband the CPA pointed this out to me right before the person who wanted to purchase my Jeep came to the house to see it. Just as another perspective depending on your trade.... |

I actually had a good experience in MI years ago.
In 1988 I traded my 1987 Sedan Deville for a 1988 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. While driving to the dealer with a For Sale sign in the window I got a call about the car. I told the caller the car was great (too old man for a 34 yr. old) but had already made a deal with the dealer. When I got to the dealer he told me to call the guy back and we would split the difference of 2K I was getting from him and the price I had been asking. The caller purchased the car for my asking price in the window and the dealer cut me a check for 1K. That was 1 of my last "American" cars until 2011 and this one will prob. be my last. |
