Ok, ready for those special comments#$%@#$%!!!!
I, too thought that was a great idea. One morning I showed up for my early morning (7:30 or so) tee time, whipped out my phone, and was told it was unacceptable. The starter said I needed the actual card. I argued that if I had the picture of my ID and. I was in their computer system, I was “legal.” She, again, insisted that I had to have the ID to play, so I told her I was going home. She said wait a minute, turned to the other course starter, said something, was handed a clipboard by the other starter with the order to “Write her up.” So, I got “written up” and I have no idea what that means. Several months later, hoping to learn a little more about the tee time system, I went to Golf School. It was clearly stated in the class that you must always have your ID with you and that a photo of the ID was unacceptable.

I called TV to see if I could get another ID to have in my golf bag since I don’t carry a wallet with me to play golf, and was told no. Only one ID per person. So, there you have it.

Happy to hear that you were "written up". Why can't people just follow the rules???

The equipment to make fake Villages cards and a set of blanks cards to print on is not very expensive. Could easily be found for $600-$700.

Rules are followed more often when they make sense. Speed limits are great examples: set the limit arbitrarily low and it will be violated regularly. The rule that you must carry the physical card and copies or photos are not valid feels arbitrary - it doesn't feel like there is a good reason for it. A credible explanation for why the rule is necessary would go a long way.

Would that $600 equipment be able to update the database so that the picture retrieved when the fake ID is scanned matches picture on the card and the person presenting it?

Would anyone really spend $600 to be able to attend water aerobics, cardio drumming, or Bridge games?

This thread demonstrates one thing clearly. (Folks may be a bit old and have outdated ideas). Nobody seems to understand that there are only two real issues.
  1. Identification - who are you?
  1. Authentication - you physically have some hard to copy mechanism for identification

An example of the first is something like a login / password combination - or in TV land, an Id number.

The second is often a biometric device that matches only you - fingerprint reader, retinal scanner, etc. - or in The Villages - a physical card that is not allowed to be duplicated. That is a weak link here, but it would only be further weakened by allowing trivial lame*ss copies for authentication.

Don't complain. Fingerprint readers are cumbersome, expensive, and usually have batteries that need replacing. The rule is not there just to be a rule. It is the rule because without it, impersonation is trivial as evidenced by all of the people in this thread who have been doing exactly what anybody could be doing to try to bypass authentication.

No i.d. in hand means no admittance, period.

I'm simply making a comparison to someone having a picture of their card on their phone. It would be very easy to copy a card which when scanned would act the same as the original.

Hopefully the Villages can sometime soon rollout something more practical that will allow multiple ways to show ID like using the Villages app. I work in tech so my level of frustration with the often antiquated ways things are done by the Villages is higher than most.

I seriously don't think there's much of a problem with unauthorized people using our facilities. There's many more important things to focus on in TV.

I'm wondering how many who don't have their ID card also don't have a drivers license with them. How did you get to the Rec center or activity? If you drove, whether golf cart or car, you should have your drivers license - Not a picture of your drivers license, but the real drivers license.

Here's a thought .... Why not keep your villages ID with your drivers license?

For those of you driving without your license and don't have your Villages ID, BUT you have your phone; How did you make it through life into retirement age and into the Villages with that set of priorities?

When they check IDs at the dog park, only the actual ID is accepted.

They spend that $600 to make duplicate credit cards, village id’s is just a add-on. However there are ways to actually duplicate cards with high tech printers, without having to buy blanks anymore. Probably find what they use on Utube

I use a waterproof pouch made to hold my phone and made of clear plastic so you can see the ID as well as who might be calling you. It has a lanyard to loop around your neck when driving to the pool in our golf cart. I stick it under our towels when we go in the water. I got mine off Amazon but I've seen them at Walmart in the outdoor sports section too.

When I first got the villages ID I was told that I could use it at places like golf courses and pools and stuff and so I kept it in my wallet. So I'm not getting why some chose to take photo copies etc when you could do the same. Are some of your wallets full? I don't get why you wouldn't have it on you. Again they tell you that when you first go get it.

It's always a good idea to have ID with you when your out. What if you have a fall, or some other medical emergency and they take you to the hospital ? It would be nice for them to know who you are....

Sorted!
Smart minds think alike.

If you get a clear case you don't even have to take it out of the case.

Mine even still works with wireless charging through the card.
