Thirteen years, only go when company comes,( not family since they detest crowds). Always avoid Rocky, not a fan of wall to wall people

About 2 times per year for the last 5 years. Too many people on “good” nights. Used to be more often when I visited my parents, it was once weekly.

When UpNorth for the summer, we still go to live music at least once per week. When in TV, unless it's too cold or too hot, we try to go ~3x/week but rarely stay for more than 2 sets, and it's usually just one. I like the variety of choices and close proximity. Yes, parking and crowds can be a hassle sometimes, but it's usually manageable. I didn't move here to stay home and watch television. Same with the restaurants. Sometimes on the squares, sometimes on the outskirts.

I would open the Daily Sun each morning, see who was playing at each square that night, and drive or take my cart to that square ( a few times I made an appearance at all 3 squares the same night).

Once I moved here, I was going to the squares probably 4-5 nights per week for the first few months, and sampled most every band, and rated each on my phone, quickly determining which ones I preferred more than others.

Once I knew who my favorite bands were, I started just waited for them to appear at the square closest to me (Brownwood).

Then, I sorta stopped going to some that previously “were” one of my favorite bands, as the order of songs played, and even the “schtick” and “banter” between songs became repetitive, and almost identical to previous times.

7 months in, I’m down to maybe going to the squares once a week, and sometimes once every-other-week. I have found going out is more about sitting and socializing with my friends and neighbors, vs which band is playing (though I still have my handful of bands that I will make an attempt to see - just don’t want to “OD” on them).

Curious about how often others get out to the squares at night.
Like you, I used to go almost every night. Now I only go if I really like the band. I love to dance. Sometimes, I will try a new band and see how they are. There are a lot of new ones. I agree with you about the schtick. It got old a long time ago but the music is still good.

I don't know why that should be a problem. The staff is obligated to keep aisles clear for emergencies.

We go often, but we don’t sit around and listen to the music. We use it as an excuse to get out of the house and walk some more.
We eat dinner, head out to a square for a 30 or 60 minutes, come home and watch whatever we are binging.

Besides different staff giving different instructions....................there is one guy at Brownwood who is way, way over the top. He will move a chair four inches. He is entertaining to watch. He loves his job.

Yep - I’ve been on the other-end of he moving my chair “a few inches”. Had to just shrug and go with it. (And I thought I was a strict rule-follower - lol)

Read once some where that the average “Villager” will stop going to the squares after 3 years. We still work so it’s rare for us to go.

The sunset at Lake Sumter still manages to take my breath away. Watch the turtles, and enjoy the cool breeze from the lake.

Some of our favorite restaurants are in Brownwood or LSL and we eat at them a few times a month. Love to walk around afterward and enjoy chatting with the people we meet along the way. Stop for some ice cream, watch the waterfalls, take a stroll around the gardens, then take a deep breath and soak up the moonlit sky. Life at these times seems almost perfect and I wish I could bottle the joy that I am feeling.

Then, we cross over the crowds listening to the band, hear the screech of the bad acoustics, get sneered at by drunks, and pray our car has not been damaged by someone who felt the need to squeeze in. Welcome back to the real world!

We are not in Florida as much as we would like but when we are there we head to the squares at least 3-4 times a week. We never go into the middle of the square but sit on the outskirts a little. As long as we can hear the band is all that matters. We sit back enjoy the music, the fresh air and usually an ice cream.
