Everywhere I go now days people say "perfect" no matter what the situation, especially office workers. I always try to offer a preemptive "perfect" before he or she can strike. It often catches them off guard and they can be speechless for a few seconds. One guy on the phone even said perfect perfect as if being perfect once wasn't enough. We came from the West, and this is prevalent all across AZ, CA, NV, and even on the phone. I assume it is a national phenomenon. The word "awesome" sneaks in there at times. Maybe we are seeing an evolution of office lingo in the making.
That reminds me, what ever happened to Groovey, Wow Man and Way Cool? ![]() |

I only hear "perfect" with: sinking a putt, a hole in one or a drive down the middle. other than that I rarely hear the word used.

"Awesome" has been the least meaningful and most overused word I can recall, especially since it is used to describe situations, people and things lacking any degree of awesomeness.
In particular I am thankful "copacetic" which was overused in the mid 1970's fell out of use. Not sure I am ready for "perfect". How about popularizing the use of "egregious"? It would be 'perfect' as it can mean remarkably good and remarkably bad. "Outstandingly bad; shocking. ‘egregious abuses of copyright’ More example sentencesSynonyms 2 archaic Remarkably good. ‘I am not so egregious a mathematician as you are.’ " From: EGREGIOUS English Definition and Meaning | Lexico.com

I don't like the ones that don't seem to mean anything:
"at the end of the day" "I'll be honest with you" "going forward" "can I ask you a question?" "that is a great question" I especially hate it when a news anchor says something is "unbelievable" when they have been reporting on similar events for months. Why even report something that is not believable? |

A less obvious one is the use of "unclear" instead of "unknown" in news articles. It was unclear how the fire started, the motive for the shooting was unclear, etc.
