Many in The Villages wear a mask because of being in process of taking chemo, drugs for MS, heart conditions, etc. Their immune systems are compromised, therefore need extra protection from ANY airborne viruses. Most doctors will tell their patients to be extra careful during certain treatments.

Replying to Bonnevie: This is a very interesting link I had not seen before, thank you for posting it. You can drill down to the stats on each county, as well as each hospital. It appears The Villages hospital almost always has high occupancy in ICU, whether there are a lot of Covid admissions or not.

Perfect. I do love how sarcasm is so often missed. You even got a "like" from one of our anti-vaxxers as your comment fit his preconceived notions. I am fairly certain that all those who died from the Black Death AKA Bubonic Plague also were vaccinated.

My opinion is that it is best not to live your life standing under the clouds some would have you believe are permanently affixed but step out into the sunshine and enjoy your existence! I worked in IT for a university with our department being co-located with the schools of engineering of various types. MANY of the students (and professors) were of other nationalities and we were OFTEN informed of a student, or group, as having been diagnosed on campus with the various maladies we mostly just read about here in the US. We took precautions like washing our hands THOROUGHLY, trying not to touch the commonly touched surfaces (and using hand sanitizer if we did), standing a reasonable distance apart and avoiding obviously ill people. But we NEVER isolated ourselves and worried ourselves sick (pun intended). We live in a great place with great people and lots of things to enjoy in our lives! Choose THAT!

The Villages do not want you to know that Covid is here and has infected many people.

The people with masks are masking to protect themselves from getting Covid 19. If people are truly sick, they would (or should) stay home to protect the rest of the population from getting Covid 19. |

I believe the county level is very accurate since Villagers interact, dine, and shop in the local area. And, businesses in The Villages as well as the squares are open to the public.
