The verdict may be published at the pacermonitor website (PacerMonitor Document View - 5:12-cv-00177 - Schwarz et al v. Board of Supervisors et al, Docket Item 342 ), but the amount of damages, if any, may not be published. In fact, when the verdict is read, only the plaintiffs will be allowed in the courtroom, I believe.

I'm just curious, given that you joined the site yesterday, have made all 7 posts about the LLC...but seem to know a lot about it.
I know some of the plaintiffs and nearly moved to TV myself. I accidentally stumbled across the case while working on a local disability rights case here in a different state. In addition, I have a couple of hearing friends elsewhere in Florida, and they asked me for clarification as they were thinking of relocating to TV because of its LLC.

I felt compelled to join this site because of the misconceptions the hearing have about the needs of the deaf. At the same time I do not agree with most of the reasons the deaf plaintiffs have brought action.

I am not an attorney, but if I'm reading it correctly, it appears that the plaintiffs lost their appeal.
I am not an attorney either, but your link is to a prior proceeding which ended Jan 11, 2017.. There is now an ongoing trial (which started Jan 30, 2017) taking place right now in Orlando, and it is for damages.

Here is the link...Login to PacerMonitor You will need to register in order to log in, and it is a long, long list of documents. Not all are complete though.

The first two weeks is free. If you download all the documents now, you won't need to worry because by the end of your two weeks, the trial should be over.

Yes, you would have to use Pacer Monitor to get up to date. The membership is free for two weeks but there is a charge for downloading any documents and it can add up quickly. Prior to the appellate court decision re the lifestyle groups I had signed up but quit when I saw how costly the documents could be.

I agree that my post was about the other proceeding and is not relevant to the current one, but if you notice, I posted that on January 11.

The charge for downloading is 15 cents per page. Unfortunately none of the pages is viewable; it has to be downloaded first, so yes, the cost can be high. After the first two free weeks, there is a subscription fee of $50.00 per month.

If this is true and because this will be taxable income, it would be a smart thing for the claimants to agree to put this in a trust fund to use for interpreting services anywhere in TV.

Yes I just read in today's Daily Sun that 21 deaf residents were awarded $212,500 in damages. This whole process has been going on since 2008 at least. So for 10 years of your life you were awarded $10,000 total. I wonder how much of this $10,000 the lawyers get? Does not seem worth it to me. Also you did not accomplish anything except having the college shut down. I am all for reasonable accommodations. But I don't really think there was a good way to settle this dispute! I honestly think we have more reasonable accommodations here than most retirement communities have for folks! We live in a sad world! We need to appreciate what we have in our life instead of worrying what we don't have in our life!

Not all of them got 10K. Each got a different amount depending on how much they were impacted, etc. About 7 of them did not get anything.
Attorneys fees are separate and I would think would be more than the 200K.

Keep in mind the LLC didn't agree with the ruling and might appeal depending on the advice of their attorney's.

Correct. The biggest single award was $25,000 and the smallest, $500.

No word yet on the amount of the attorneys' fees.

No word yet whether the LLC will file an appeal.

They are reopening the LLC but it will be of a different format, I believe.

It is now time for the plaintiffs to take their pitiful payouts, sell their homes and go somewhere else to file another lawsuit. They should all be treated as piranhas in the community.
