They're better than Takis, but they also use the pre-sliced packaged meat...

Great Chicago Fire Brewery in Leesburg does a great Gyros. Best one i've had in Florida, just like in Chicago. They import everything from Chicago. They do a Chicago Hot Dog and Chicago thin crust pizza. And they make their own beer.

We really like sliced meat off a Spit gyros (NY City) but for lack of that we just like Gyros. Now I don't want to be hung up or shot but we really like Arbys Gyros - very reasonable, good fries and as good or better then many. Give them a try!

BTW don't know if you've been to Greece but on a previous trip several years ago to a friends house who previously lived in the US but moved back to Athens Greece we told her we couldn't find Gyros in Greece and she told us they didn't know what they were and finally had to go to a place where she explained what a Gyro was before they finally came up with them. Interesting not sure if its still that way but would like to know if any other visitors to Greece were able to find a Gyro?

You asked for it !!!!

Arby's famous slogan: "Arby's we've got the meat (or some unknown substance with similar physical characteristics)" Actually, their roast beef like sliced material is decent and the curly fries are good. Kinda like the Taco Bell of beef.

As Jon Stewart once said: Arby's: "Still making sandwiches filled with sliced something."

I had a great one in the street market in Athens (in the shadow of the Parthenon)...

And that was 30 lbs heavier!

A guide to ordering "gyros" in Greece

I had a few Gyros from Arby's. They are OK.

Can’t speak to the whole list but Takis uses the sliced gyro (pronounced Yeero) meat.

Call some of those on the list before you go. It’s my opinion that gyros aren’t a fast selling item here and that would leave a lot of meat wasting on the spit each day hence the refrigerated sliced style so the can use as the have need.

I expect those places with Gyro in their name would turn enough sandwiches to have the spit turning and shaving the fresh Lamb.

Default Gyros in Ocala.

The best place I have found for Gyros is The Gyro Grill in Ocala. They have lamb & beef or chicken gyros in addition to a few other Mediterranean dishes. You can check out their website at https://gyrogrillocala.com; the owner was very friendly and I thought the gyros were good, but I have not tried other places in Ocala. They're on SRT 200 in Ocala, a few miles west of I75. Small place and not fancy.

But they are not carved off of the spit. They are lunchmeat slices as well.

Default Gyros

If you don’t mind going to Altamonte Springs ( an hour away) , in the food court in the mall , there is a place called Mediterranean. They have meat off the spit. Gyros are $10 with a salad and soda. They are excellent.

The place is a great choice. Excellent gyro, Chicago dog, thin crust pizza, and
Italian beef.

Agreed.

And very generous portions, even for lunch.
