Default We are Younguns too!

My husband is 56 and I am 48. We are still PTimers but hope to be FT next year..I was wondering if there were many of us under 60....I will tell you I adore my village neighbors who are mostly in their 70, 80.s...So we know the age thing is no big deal...I do understand what you are saying though..Nice to be with folks who are in the same part of their life's journey as you..Thanks for posting b/c I had never heard of the baby boomers club until your post... We will join up!

Default Hmmmmm.

Gosh. This thread is kinda making me feel a little...bad.

EXCEPT some really dear people spoke up and said a lot of nice stuff about the somewhat older people. I am not older. I will be 70 in November.

I think I am current in my ideas, lifestyle and interests. In my heart I am 16. I meet each person with a real interest in what is happening in their lives and after living five decades or so we have all experienced many of the same happy times and some of the same sadnesses.

I choose my friends for their kindness and warmth first and then their zest for life. I have not been disappointed in TV. My youngest friend is 48 and my oldest is 97. Not that I'M counting!

Thanks Gracie you are wonderful…..we are in our mid 50’s and our best friends have just turned 74 and we can hardly keep up with them. I don’t mean just physically. They have a certain loving nature that sometimes comes only with maturity. We just love listening to all their wonderful stories and experiences. They are our Heroes. After reading this forum for many months we know how you and your group of friends are always there for each. I don’t care what number your at…it’s what is in your heart that really counts. We can’t wait to meet with you and all your buddies in the next few months.

When I read your original comments, I could picture a bunch of 50-somethings running across the lawn of a 60 or 70-something. Funny...

Default Was it something I said

Did not want to anyone to think I don't like my older friends. It was the people we met down here when we visited the first time that prompted us to buy and they were all in the 70-80 price range and doing things like riding bikes 40 miles a day and playing on 2 or 3 softball teams. We just want some balance and people who are going through some of the same life experiences as us at the same time. Retirement, kids weddings, birth of grandkids, etc. Now I feel guilty and have to go help someone across the street (whether they want to go or not)

Don't feel a bit guilty. This is a VERY different experience being on the younger end of the age curve. I have been here 14 months and some days I still ask myself.... what the heck am i doing in a 'retirement community'??? I find it beautiful, safe, with endless things to do.... but the demographics are definitely different. Also, with every tick of every second of every day I'm inching closer to the OTHER end of the spectrum (and so are you)_

GG, I know I can ALWAYS count on you. We've never met in person, but if I ever sell this darn house and make it to TV, you are one of the first people I want to meet (Oh don't cry Kathie, you're on that list too )

For me age is not a factor. I am looking forward to joining clubs and partaking in activities with people that have the same interests as myself. If the people happen to be "younger" great! If they happen to be "older" great! Selfishly, I just want them to be people I want to spend time with who want to spend time with me.

And Gracie if I make it down by November I'll help celebrate your big seven-oh.

Julie,,,,,
The Villages Florida

Let me tell you something about this place folks, age is NOT A FACTOR..... I've said it before and I'll say it again,,,, I arrived here @ 67 years old, I am now down to 52 and getting younger by the minute. Most of my friends are a lot younger, but, by golly, I out dance and out party any of them. Sometimes I get very frustrated because they poop out on me and can't keep up with me..... No one here cares how old you are or what you look like, just have a great time and enjoy..... Amennnn!!!!

I think it was something you said.

I just retired from the IT field. (Forced) I still have a daughter to marry off. None of my grandchildren is over 3. (Another in the oven) I started my trip through what you seem to refer to as life later than you and it seems we arrived at the same time.

What matters is not your age but where you are in life. When your dead, nobody cares how old you are.

Yours is an interesting outlook.

Bless you.

Congratulations on your move to TV!! I am also 55 and I must say that I am not worried one bit about the variety of ages, as they all seem to be 21 in spirit and mind. I will probably have a hard time keeping up with them hehe ....especially some of my new gal pals .

I look forward to meeting you and your wife in October (assuming I will have no problem at the closing with my extremely picky buyers ).

Glad to hear about the Baby Boomers Club...sounds like alot of fun!

One place to meet younger Villagers might be the Baby Boomers Club. Must be born after Jan 1, 1946, but before 1964. So there are some folks in their early 60s who can attend.
The used to meet at La Hacienda which is closed for remodeling. Their next meeting is Sept. 16th.

Its not how old you are but how old you feel. I am still working and buth the way one of the oldies in my department (64 and proud of it) most of the 40 year olds around me cant keep up with me. The younger people always invite me places and want to hang out because I like to have fun.
I cant wait to retire and finally move into my home and meet everyone no matter what your age is. Looking forward to enjoying everyone"s company and lovin and laughin !!! .....Laura:
