That doesn't make any sense. You WANT people looking out for a lost pet!

I agree that is a very strange policy. And from what I have heard on the Villages radio station in the past they must have changed their policy because they have announced a lost dog in some area before.

So actually what it amounts to is that they are only announcing "found" dogs. If you lost a dog, would they announce that? As opposed to "there is a loose dog running around."

Don't shoot the messenger - call them and see if you get a better explanation. I agree - if someone is missing their dog they would want a clue where to go look.

I'm not shooting the messenger, gomoho. I'm shooting the radio station.

Good advice.

I had heard lost dogs before being announced on the Villages' radio station. Maybe the lawyers got involved and they are afraid someone might go into some weeds with a rattlesnake or water moccasin in them.

Can you imagine the warnings that might come after such a message? "The Villages absolves itself of any liability due to misfortunes which might occur to searchers for lost canines. This is not limited to those foreseeable misfortunes by a reasonable person and may include falling into culverts, wrestling with alligators, falling into gopher tortoise holes, twisting your ankle, pygmy rattlesnake bites, infections through contaminated water, and blah, blah, blah...."

How WOULD they announce it? You can't go on a golf course to look for the dog, that would be dangerous during play and trespassing after hours.

I thought maybe they could say a lost dog wearing a harness has been seen loose in the area of such-and-such for x amount of days. If you see or catch this dog please call (the person who made the report to the radio station) at the following number... or the radio station for the person's number, or however they handle that.

I stand by my statement, they do euthanize animals. Read the posts of other contributers. It is my understanding that Marion County DOES NOT euthanize their animale. The will keep then as long as necessary.

This information does not seem to be helpful on this thread where kindhearted people are looking for a lost dog.

Or as my sainted ancestor often told me..

"You could have gone all day and not said that."

Gracie, I think rubicon is addressing a prior post concerning who(m?) you should call to come out and try to catch the stray dog. I think he is saying that there is a possibility that this particular org. could possibly euthanize the dog under certain circumstances, whereas Sumter would not.

Or that was my take on his post. I could be wrong. About the two orgs, too. (Have I covered my a** enough here?)
