Bigger trash cans needed. Problem solved.

The request not to use the trash cans at the mailbox area was before they started burning all trash trash used to be recycle now it does not matter where you put it all trash is burned.
Don’t be upset that you couldn’t put your pets poop poop in the can that is not a receptacle or animal waste!!

Dont complain about your amenity fees when it pays for the trash pick up at mail stations.

If the cans are for junk mail, and they frequently get overfilled, it seems larger/more cans are needed. Maybe those concerned should notify TV that they get overloaded.

Or possibly those responsible for emptying them need to inform their superiors.

Who tells people not to use the trash cans for junk mail? I've never been told this by anyone although I have heard complaints about it. Our mail station has not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 trash cans! I'm guessing they are for junk mail since I don't know why else they would be there!? Now the person who left his/her junk mail just lying on top of the trash can probably could have taken a few steps to another can and disposed of the junk mail properly. This is just one lazy person and doesn't represent all of us.

Totally disagree with you. Take your junk mail trash home and dispose of it there. Just wait until the phone books start to arrive.

Junk mail is a problem. It is usually advertising or solicitations. It is generated because it works. If it did not produce a return greater than the cost, advertisers and solicitors would cease using it. It wastes resources and pollutes our environment. (over flowing trash cans with loose papers and plastics blowing into the ponds and neighborhoods.) Easiest solution might be to take it home and put unwanted mail in home trash. Same as not unwrapping unwanted packaging and leaving it at the store.
In truth, rather than trash cans, dumpsters would allow those that don't want to take junk mail home, a more practical size receptacle for that purpose. Problem then is that some would use them for excessive household trash and junk (old chairs, broken lamps, used auto filters, etc).
Fact is, this is just my opinion. I am not the trash police. Just a neighbor who likes his neighborhood and would like to keep it nice for everyone.
Peace! 🙏

When cans are full common-sense dictates that no more trash should be put into the cans. Take it home and stuff it in your own trash.

Common sense would be to not leave the mail as in that photo. It could blow all over the place. This mail trash has been discuss before on this site. I actually met the man that empties our trash cans one day doing his job. I asked him if it was ok to leave junk mail in the trash or should I just take it home. His answer surprised me. He said to please put it in the trash can at the postal station. He then told me that he empties our cans every day and they would cut his hours if there was not enough trash to collect. I never realized it was emptied every day. I don't know how often your trash is emptied, but I'm going to put mine in our postal trash to keep this man working. Support your postal trash collector!

Common sense a myth. Evidence is the overstuffed trash bins.

Some people claim that the Post Office makes money delivering junk mail. I find that hard to believe. If it is true, then why don't private companies deliver junk mail? The solution is for the Federal Government to charge their actual cost to deliver all mail, especially junk mail that damages the environment.

I was never told not to put unwanted mail in the cans. I can’t find such a sign. Were you so instructed? By whom? If it’s a rule, I’ll follow it. Question: If they are not intended for mail, then why 5 cans? “off site” trash could be problematic. I think maybe they just might be for unwanted mail and I will continue to place mine there. If you want my address, it’s also in the phone book, many places on the web and at the county offices.

Can’t we just ask nicely to make sure your trash is properly disposed before we walk away. That might be a more productive post.

Sorry I’m a bit edgy. I am a rule follower and I feel that maybe this isn’t really a rule and I’m being duped. Happy to find out differently if in fact it is a rule.

Postal service should start charging these mailers at same rate that we all pay and cancel their bulk mail discount

That would cut out lots of junk, help the postal deficit, save the planet from wasted ink and paper, and maybe reduce the frequent stamp cost inflation

It is a rule that was made up by the self appointed postal trash police.
