Oh the irony, before you moved here the locals were griping about all the people moving here, now you have become a local and are doing the same thing.

Was told over the weekend by a wife of one of the head guys on the Water Commission that this is to be a multi-age place to attract the doctors, nurses, etc. for the new hospital being built there. They are going to be building so far south that she said Brownwood would then be the CENTER of The Villages!!!! They are building a home in 45 days or less, believe it or not, so you can imagine the quality (not) that is there. This will take until estimated 2030 to 2032. Very disappointing facts to hear.

The multi modal paths are not restricted. Our amenity fees do not give us the sole use of the paths I have seen people unload golf carts from outside the villages to have a Sunday drive. They are open to the public same as the squares. I know of no neighborhoods except possibly Orange blossom that allows children. Middleton will be part of The Villages and will be connected by the new bridge so hold onto your hats

Looking closely in Vol 17 of the "Continuing The Dream" newspaper insert (available on TV's website under What's New and Continuing The Dream), on Page 2. There is a break-out text box labeled, "How Eastport Was Named." Starting on Line 7, the Developer writes, "Because this area of The Villages is central to the plans for the overall community..." Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or maybe they slipped in a glimpse of their (current) long term goals for the overall community.

I’m well over 55 and I didn’t move here to get away from children or families. I moved here to get out of NY and I wake up everyday grateful to be able to live in the very beautiful Villages. I see kids in the square all the time. They are well behaved and not rowdy. They make me smile, hell, we were kids once too. Sure there will be an occasional exception, but it takes a Village to support a Village. The young people who work here for us need a place to live. I say welcome.

There are thousands of family homes being built not only in Middleton but up and down 301 from Sumterville to Oxford and beyond, also in Lady Lake and Fruitland Park, Powell Road, Racetrack Road, Warm Springs, they are going up all around The Villages east to west and north to south. That being said, family housing is needed and welcome as far as I'm concerned but I'm really worried about traffic, very little information has been released regarding how all of the vehicles that come with all of the housing will be handled, these homes will bring a lot of cars and trucks into the area and it's not going to be fun getting from one spot to another.

I think it is fabulous, the more villages the more we need young people to mow our yard and do work to keep our lifestyle. I don't see any kids from the Villages Schools using anything other than Laurel Manor for swim team.
Do you honestly think they want to hang out with us? |

I live in the south area of the Village, and will be in easy driving distance of Middleton once it is built. And I am excited to see it.
One of the downsides of moving here, and I'm on the younger side, is not seeing young people as much as I did. It doesn't change my age, but it helps me feel younger to see young people and watch them having fun, especially at the square. Maybe they laugh at us some. So what? I laughed at plenty of "old people" at that age. That's what they do. They can laugh at me while they are serving me drinks at World of Beer and City Fire. If they want a good tip, they have to be nice to me to my face! And there are plenty of people here that would be happy to have hair, even if it was purple! Also hoping that as they build Middleton, they will put more stores and restaurants down here. It's a PITA to always have to drive north to go to Wal-Mart, BJ's or Sams Club. Not to mention Chick-Fil-A! |
