[QUOTE=dewilson58;2154137]Well the good thing is........................if you were going 30 mph, decelerating up to the stop sign, applying brakes gently and your brake lights work...................and if the driver behind you is not paying attention..............it should be nothing more than a minor bump.

John Morgan’s ‘team’ or Dan Newlin could turn that into 6 figures (whiplash)!!!

Kidding!!! 😎

1 speed bump entering where the gate is would be tolerable, but none throughout the village itself. My vote would be to just keep the gate.

Exactly. Never figured the need for a gate IN THAT DIRECTION which is heading south on Morse towards 466 already passed the golf cart crossing and about 200 yards from the 466/Morse traffic light. Even worse, there are times in the early afternoon going in that south direction the sun and the trees above the gates causes that set of gate arms to be much less visible due to the foliage color (hard to explain but if you think about it as you drive into it you'll see). The only POSSIBLE reason for that gate would be to allow someone heading NORTH on Morse to make a U-Turn after the gatehouse which IMO is really dumb anyway. That direction at that location has always been a strange place for gates considering how close it is to the 466 traffic signals.. The other direction they are totally needed. I doubt a ticket can be written for temporary signs as the signs likely aren't registered with the county or proper specs (height etc). They just can't just put any signs anywhere and have them be "proper" for ticket issuance.

Sign of the times.

In Minneapolis they basically decriminalized shoplifting because everybody was doing it.

It's a bit less "cerebral" over there.

If they're not willing to do my speed bump suggestion they should at least put blinking lights on those gates, the little reflective tape is not going to cut it. Make them more visible and maybe less people will crash into them.

Yea, I don’t understand why someone that’s retired could be in such a hurry either. I guess they want to get home so they don’t miss their favorite show or their tee time. I see & know what you’re talking about!

If you don't enforce rules then people will not follow rules. This is not unique to The Villages, to seniors or anyone else. It's a societal thing, always has been and always will be.

Pull a few cars over for not stopping and you'll start to see compliance. In the interim, if/when an accident happens then lawyers will litigate who was at fault at great benefit to themselves.

… to be honest I don’t think this site is the ‘home room’ for Rhodes Scholars!

This isn't a "retirement" community. It's a 55+ community. In addition, Morse is a public road, there are thousands of people who work in the area and use that road, who don't live in the Villages. But they serve Villagers as waiters, fire fighters, police officers, insurance agents, lawyers, doctors, sales clerks, etc. etc. You not being in a rush doesn't entitle you to decide whether or not everyone else should be in a rush.

Some people need to get home and take care of their children. They may not be speeding or running red lights, but they're also wanting to get home. And you going slow as molasses and saying "what's the rush, you're retired!" only points out your false sense of entitlement and myopic view of your surroundings.

I think this post is spot on. I am the biggest fan of gates, but this one particular gate (in the south direction), serves no purpose because 1.) there is no cart traffic beyond, 2.) it doesn't help with the cart traffic crossing at a considerable distance before this gate, and 3.) it is just before the stoplight. Further, I agree with another post that the visibility is more difficult here than most gates.
