I've gone through that gate numerous times, including today, I'll slow down at the guard shack but will not stop for fear of being hit from the rear.
The absence of a gate adds to another problem, that being the "cross-over" required for S/B golf carts. This might be the most dangerous location in all of TV for carts. Without a gate ahead, drivers in cars are not slowing in anticipation of stopping. This reduces the opportunity for cart drivers to make the cross-over. Even when the gates are in operation, the cross-over is dangerous. As it is the only cross-over in TV, at least to my knowledge, it comes as a surprise to many cart drivers, certainly to those who do not frequently pass through the area. Earlier this year I was playing Tierra Del Sol and was on the tee box to the west of the cross-over. There was screech of tires and a loud "thud". One of the players laughed and said "there goes a set of club". All of us looked over the hedge and saw a cart sideways in the street; its driver jumping out of the cart; and, hurrying to the rear of his cart. In the next moment, a woman came into view, brushing herself off, and screaming at the man. Thankfully, she did not appear to be hurt. However, I doubt if he had the best evening of his life. |

First of all I’m not here to argue. It is a retirement community, at 55 yrs. old 95% of the people in TV don’t work so it’s pretty much a retirement community 2nd the only one that have any children are the resident (55) & at 55 yrs. old I doubt anyone at that age have children in school. So yes some people are just mean spirited. Like I said I didn’t comment to start an argument. I think you knew exactly what I was talking about, & I do understand what your saying.

I just came through the gate, inbound, off of Buena Vista at Bailey Trail in front of Miona Rec Center. The visitor lane had no gate, but had THREE stop signs. The first one was positioned right where it always is, and two more before the cart crossing path (or pedestrian or bike crossing, whatever you want to call it).
The most awkward thing about the way they are using the stop signs in lieu of the gates is putting one right before the crossing. Anyone not privy to the particular way we deal with the right-of-way between cars and carts would be justified in assuming that the cars are to STOP at the crossing and allow golf cars, bikes, and pedestrians the right-of-way. Awkward, and maybe even dangerous. |

When I drive thru our gate in Osceola Hills, there is a stop sign for the cars and also for the golf carts and bikes. It is a three-way stop. The first vehicle to the intersection, be it a car, cart, or bike, has the right to cautiously go first. |

Bottom line: Until we solve the problem of bad drivers, everything else is just a band-aid.

When did the stop sign for cars go up? There is no stop sign for cars visible in Google Maps Street View at either of the Deskin Lane gates.

I can't think of a single one that has a stop sign for cars before the cart path crossing, other than the "visitor" lane on the gates that have a manned gate operator. Those stop signs aren't there to necessarily yield right-of-way to golf carts, but to get the cars to stop and wait for the gate to be manually switched open by the attendant. Typically on the egress, cars drive through the cart crossing path, to get right up to the gate. Automobiles have the ROW, golf carts wait. Often if there is a line, an automobile driver will stop short, and wave a cart or two through, which is fine and appreciated. What is awkward is when there is no line of automobiles waiting, and an automobile driver stops and waves the golf cart through. The temporary stop sign placed short of the crossing path creates that situation where it wouldn't normally exist. Nobody knows exactly what is expected of them. |

When there is a stop sign, I either stop or slow down to a speed of 1 mpd*. * 'mpd' = miles per day |
