Default Need air circulation in my kitchen ?'s

Hello,
Our kitchen needs more air circulating. I tend to cook a lot. Thinking of a ceiling fan but wonder….
1. Any other ideas?
2. Will the fan make odd shadows on the counters due to the recessed lighting?
Any help will be appreciated.
thank you.

p.s. I have an open Whispering Pine, if that matters….

We added a ceiling fan about a year ago. I did this myself, as the wiring was close enough I did not have to wade through a lot of insulation. The inspector liked my work.

But back to your question, yes the ceiling fan makes a BIG difference, I would say go for it. We had a 2 ft extension to lower the fan 2 ft from the ceiling. Added LED lights so the bulb do not add to the heating load.

We centered the fan in the kitchen area, and shadows from the fan are minimal.

Try a tall slender fan in a corner. The air going over your skin is what cools.

We had a chandelier in our nook, the fixture box was fan duty rated swapped out the chandelier for a fan, also replaced the fan in our living room with a 60" 3 bladed custom fan--air circulation is great, now-did it almost 5 years ago

Our kitchen exhaust fan here appears to NOT be vented outside. It must be local code. I don't like it, but I don't want to change it and have something vented outside that allows critters to get inside. Bathroom exhaust fans must be vented outside ??????? Anyone know?

I believe it is - look for a vent on your roof - it could be hard to spot depending on which house you have.

Are you referring to your microwave vent, or oven vent?

Microwave. Never thought about oven.

The microwave should be vented (externally). Our wall oven is not.

The bathrooms are vented by a flexible duct that exits just outside the bathroom wall in the roof overhang, these do not go through the roofing shingles.

I agree with the above comments, the microwave should be exhausted through the roof. If you get a copy of your house plans you will see this on the plans.

Against my better judgement we just installed a ceiling fan in the kitchen. It worked out well temperature wise but the shadow that is thrown by the light from the skylight is shocking at first but disappears from your attention quickly. All in all 4 stars out of 5. I think it was a good idea but think the main mistake with ceiling fans is the proportion of the fan to the room size. The ones that were in the entire house were to small, hardly worth even having them. 5 new fan's and its heavenly at all times.

Any microwave vent is insufficient to vent properly. Plan on removing it and installing a dedicated vent above the stove. Braun has excellent vent units with blower wheels rather than propellers. Wheels discharge many more CFM's that a prop will. I have no problem with a small microwave on the counter.

Fanimation. It is the first thing people notice when they come in the house. It has been running 24/7 for 6 years now.
