In 2025 we hear of a 50mph cart. It's early in the year leaving plenty of time for someone to claim a 60mph cart before the next ball drops on Times Square.
(I need to search my old posts and create a chronology of ever-increasing golf cart speeds)

It's my contention that speed is not the issue,

Heard of a guy who took a cart and modified it into a helicopter. That doesn't mean that there is going to be a flood of people turning their carts into helicopters.

In the spirit of "it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness":, be aware that there is a public meeting scheduled for Tuesday Jan. 21, 2025, 2:00 PM at Savannah Center, the purpose of which is to discuss ways that the MMPs can be made safer.
A couple of minutes there giving public input might be far more useful and constructive than the endless bellyaching we see in these discussions. |

The fault is not necessarily Snowbirds....but the fact that there are MORE carts on the paths; everyone is in a hurry to be first. I bike daily and always announce when passing a pedestrian who is walking with traffic. Many use ear pods or headphones and don't hear me, so it is essential to ride cautiously around them. Sometimes I listen to books while biking, and use just one ear pod or make sure transparent setting is engaged in order to hear golf carts as they whiz by. Remember that there is a law for motorized vehicles to give at least 3 feet clearance to a non-motorized bicycle or pedestrian and should pass only when safe. On El Camino Real, I once saw a golf cart almost flatten a guy walking towards traffic as it was passing me on my bike. The pedestrian screamed bloody murder and the golf cart driver did actually make a U turn to... perhaps apologize? Don't see much evidence of regret in golf cart drivers very often, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

You should take some time and learn a little about our community. Those are multi-modal paths (MMP), not cart paths.

Please tell the uniformed drivers that those reddish/brown pavers in the street at the squares are pedestrian crosswalks. Likewise tell the pedestrians at the squares that you just can’t walk out from in between the parked vehicles into the street without looking for approaching vehicles. That is all.

1. I'm in the process of going uphill OR 1a. The other side of the intersection is the beginning of an incline. 2. There is no one else coming on any side of the intersection. I also do the following, when there is traffic at a 4-way intersection: I wait until ALL cars have passed before riding through. If someone tries to wave me on, I get off my bicycle completely and look away from whoever tried to do that. Reason for that: YOU might want to wave me on, but the person who was at the other side of the intersection before YOU got there, might not. I don't care who has the right of way. To me - the person who can kill me easiest has the right of way. |

![]() ![]() ![]() I fully understand. More than half the stop signs in TV should be yield signs, especially where the ramp from a tunnel merges with the main MMP, or even a road crossing with clear visibility. So yes, I tend to roll through those as well. My only objection is to those "holier than thou" cyclists who can cite every little rule pertaining to cars and carts, but blatantly violate every rule that pertains to cyclists. |

After speaking to Pat Breedan, Adam Dodge and Bob Seimer of the Sumter County police department, they realize there are problems with Over medicated, drunken drivers and just careless morons. I get the same answer, the Sumter County police is under staffed and not enough resources.
Captain Siemer and Sqt. Dodge are avid riders in the villages also. I have seen presents of police golf cart north of 466 on the multiuse path once by Sqt. Dodge 4 months ago, but never seen them south of 466. I was also told that due to the multiuse path being on Villages private property that their authority is limited unless there is an accident or drunken or impaired driver. Folks have your head on a swivel my husband has been hit twice in the last 5 years! Stay Safe |

Our son, who is a runner, has told me more than once that TV is the most dangerous place he has run in. South of 44 could be a bit better for walkers and runners but we live north of 44.

But if I was on a bicycle and saw no one to my left, I'd still likely take a right without stopping out of the tunnel because - that next leg is all uphill and it's either ride through, or get off and walk it up the hill. I'm sure there isn't a single golf cart driver who would happily tolerate THAT if they were stuck behind me. |
