In need of reviews
My mother is 82 and has major back problems. We (her kids) were talking about getting her a Bidet, hoping it will help make things in the bathroom easier for her back.
No one in the family has one so let the search begin. They go from a simple one for $50 to the Grand Daddy $1000. If you have one can you please share a review like make, model, cost, and will this help her. Thank you in advance for all your help. The one we are considering is TOTO Washlet C2.

We've got this one at less than 34.00 it is the bottom of the market. It does not heat the water or have a special spray pattern. It is simple a valve and squirt of focused water jet.
It works well, however when January brings cold water it can give you a bit of a shock. That is only a brief moment in the calendar, though. I would rebuy. I played around with bidets in European hotels and I did not like them at all, I ended up getting soaked. I have another suggestion you might try. When my husband was in rehab he was given some excellent wet wipes. They are almost the size of a small hand towel and pleasantly lightly scented. I get them now for my grand babies and their Mothers like them, but they are not flushable. They are available on Amazon. Mckesson Staydry disposable wash cloths100 12x7. It is an excellent product. |

I would check with consumer reports or similar for reviews on these devices. As noted above if you want or need warm water add $200 to $500 for the GFCI installation, also if you still have the pop on/off water valves, this will probably need to be changed. All the ones I saw APPEARED to change the height of the toilet seat, no idea if this would be a concern.

The "Buttler" is a fairly cheap but sturdy alternative bidet!

I installed a Toto for my mother-in-law who also lives in TV. She loves it. My wife decided we needed one, as well. I purchased the Toto C5 from Amazon for $400 and the electrician was $400 for the dedicated GFCI (Pikes electric). No need for hot water inlet as this model warms the water in a receptacle. Also has heated seat, multiple spray and dry modes and a remote. One note of caution: the heated seat has 3 settings and the highest setting will roast your butt! |

Jerry and Linda (YouTube channel name: The Villages Florida Newcomers) did a video on this subject, which you may find helpful.
It was uploaded on October 19, 2023. The title is "A MUST SEE VIDEO We Never Thought We'd Make". |

I installed one for my wife in the master bath, but it does not heat the water. It has an on and off button, a button for the front and one for the back and a self cleaning button. The knob adjusts the water pressure. It was cheap on Amazon, about $35-40, but she likes it. Recently, she received a fancy one from one of our kids that has a night light, heats the water, etc. Now, I will have to install a wall power outlet so I can plug it in. I'll have to install it in the guest bath, since that is the only place with power close enough that I can run the line to it. The cheap one works fine and she is happy with it. It is a simple DIY project. So easy, I didn't even need to use a youtube video for instruction...

That being said, it’s a one and done, and the additional charge, if it helps her even slightly, might easily be worth the cost.

We have a Brondell Swash CL1700 that was a little over $200. Has a nightlight, seat heater, various settings, wall mount controls. Love it. You definitely want a wall mount control - the seat side controls require flexibility to operate.
We just stayed in a penthouse suite at the Bellagio that had a Toto bidet that opened when it sensed you nearby and automatically flushed itself. Value - over $10,000 lol. Hubby is a retired plumber and he had to look it up. |

We have bought two of them, one of them was bought about twelve years ago, and the was two years later (because we had two bathrooms) and I have to say they were the best purchases of my life. We didn’t buy the cheap ones; we paid about $800. Well worth it.
