The best way to purchase a new vehicle is to find what you want on the dealership website. Then call and ask for the internet manager. You can negotiate over the phone. Once satisfied with the bottom-line price, you set your appointment with the internet manager to purchase the vehicle. Go in, pay and drive it home. No brain damage.

I have tried that method and it doesn't work with all dealers. Most internet managers I have talked with have refused to provide an out-the-door price. They want you to visit the dealership before they will negotiate a final price. I think that some dealers use the internet sales as a gimmick to get your phone number and to get you to visit the dealership. They are not serious about selling vehicles over the internet.

One thing I left out is you do this on the final business day of the month, and you will be surprised on how well this works.

I purchase a new care every 3 or 4 years. Not because of high mileage but because I like to drive a new vehicle and can afford to. Making a purchase is always a hassle at most all Dealerships. Leesburg motorway is among the worst but it is convenient. I always go in with options on different manufacturers and prepared to walk out is I get too much of a run around. I remember looking at a car when living in TN and the dealer had my keys to evaluate my trade. They would not return my keys and I put my phone on speaker as I called the local Sharif. My keys showed up in about 10 seconds.

I'm surprised no vehicle manufacturer of ICE products have picked up on the Tesla sales model. They would probably have to beat people off with a stick to accommodate the demand.

That would be great, but the average uninformed car buyer pays about $3,000 to $4,000 more than informed buyers. As long as car buyers do not know how to buy a car, or are afraid to haggle, dealers and manufacturers will take advantage of the situation.

Plus, since my timeframe is extremely flexible and it’s a cash transaction, there is negotiating leverage. I could fly down just about anytime next year, spend some time at our Villages home, and drive the new ride back north. The only hassle is that the car would come with temporary plates and I would have to take care of all the MA title, registration, taxes, inspection, etc… myself. Unfortunately, it’s a hassle wanting a FWD option up north. But why pay more for an AWD option that reduces MPG, requires more maintenance, has more stuff that could break, and wears tires faster, when we spend the snow season in the Villages shoving sunshine? One things for certain, I’m not dealing with Jenkins. We brought my wife’s HRV there last winter for a manufacturers recall (fuel pump) and never before have dealt with such a highly questionable dealership.

We used Honda of Ocala for recall work. They were outstanding. Professional, friendly, and no nonsense.

They can't. It would violate the contracts the manufacturers have with the dealers.

That seems to be a little steep. Are any of these fees negotiable? Or, are they carved in granite?

Go to TrueCar and/or Edmunds and that will give you an idea. Enter your e-mail and dealers will give you quotes knowing they are trying to get your business by completing against other dealers in the area. That will get you close, and usually you can get a few things thrown in at the end that don't have any significant cost to the dealership. Lastly, if they have a car in their inventory that is close, but maybe has some things you don't want, let them know you don't what to waste money on those things, sometimes they'll discount them away to clear the inventory that is costing them to hold.

I don't believe there's such a thing as a forever contract.

After selling Toyotas and Fords run from any extra fees, exception sales tax And the tag. Everything else that they able to eat rather than lose the sale. And don’t let them pull any up sale when you go to the back either because the dealer gets a kick back on everything they sell so and is most of it is not needed

It is currently a franchise law.

I buy a brand new car (sometimes 2 cars) every 2 years and I get the best price within a 350 mile radius from my desk chair, without driving 1 block.

I know what I want when I buy a new car. So I create an email alias (just 1) and I send out to all the dealers of the brand/car model I want with a 350 mile radius. I tell them the EXACT specs I want and I want to know the best out the door price for this car including all fees and sometimes when I trade in a car, I’ll tell them I have this car, it’s in excellent condition and I want this price for the trade in. I have dozens of dealers responding to my email. It always gets down to a final 2 or 3 and I let them know that I got this price from another dealer and I let them either come down, match the price, or offer goodies like lifetime warranty to sweeten the offer. Of cours, with a trade in, they need to look at my car to make sure it’s worth that price I requested. The times I did this, I picked up the car, knew to the penny what the price was and drove home.
Then when I got home, I deleted the alias and never received an email from any of these dozens of dealers. The days of so being 4-6 hours at a dealership trying to get the best deal are over. When dealers tell me they can’t come down in price to match others, you know you are close to the bottom that can go

So much effort, I'd rather have a purchasing situation like Tesla buyers have available. Laws can be changed, citizens need to speak up for their rights. If Tesla can do it, so can ICE vehicles. We all, as a whole, need to fund elections at a greater rate than dealers and bingo! Wishes granted!
