Perhaps the suspicious package was not on the turnpike.

Let's say it was on the MMP circle on the north side of the Water Lilly bridge or maybe on Meggison road near the circle. Meggison road would be closed to keep traffic out of that area and so would the Water Lilly bridge for the same reason. The package may not have been close enough to the turnpike for it to be a concern but it could have been close enough to both Meggison Rd and the MMP for those to be concerns.

I'm with you, I don't like the idea of shutting everything down out of an abundance of caution. But the problem *could* have been in a location where they just didn't have a choice.

The turnpike was not shut down because it was determined the turnpike didn’t need to be shut down.

Just wondering what makes something a “suspicious “ package and not just something that fell off the back of someone’s golf cart?

Drove by this also, better safer than sorry in todays world.

Was not aware Community Watch people could be used for traffic control on county roads.

Default Saw the item

We actually saw the item in question Friday afternoon.
It was on the MMP traffic circle on the Meggison side of the Water Lily bridge. It was a weird looking thing sitting on the triangular concrete divider and looked a bit like a kid’s science project. It was metal and appx 18 inches high. It was unusual looking but it never occurred to us to call it in as a suspicious package. However, someone thought it was, so kudos to them for being cautious.

We went over the Water Lilly bridge and saw what looked like a commercial pvc glue containers attached to a handle it had been sitting by the bridge all day. Someone stopped to take a picture of it, and must have called it in as suspicious container..When we came back over the bridge the fire department had the area blocked off. I am sure it was left there by accident when workers were doing the irrigation work on the new chip and putt course.

It caused a great deal of inconvenience for a lot of people.

I needed to go to Publix to pick up a prescription and was turned back. I went home and got my car, picked up the prescription and was not allowed to enter Meggison on my way home. I explained to the guy blocking the road that I live about 200 yards from the end of Meggison and he still would let me through.

I'm surprised that with that kind of threat that the turnpike was never closed.
Don’t be surprised.
