No one is paying for walls when you build near an existing highway. They usually install walls when a highway is being built near existing homes. I lived on the side of a hilltop, a very long distance from a highway, and the sound is very obvious day and night when outside the house. No wall is enough for me.

Just to clarify, almost all traffic noise is caused by the tire contact with the road at high speeds. Electric vehicles will not solve the problem.

We live in Marsh Bend fairly close to the turnpike. We do not hear anything inside or on our lanai. The only time I notice traffic noise is late at night when I take the dog outside. I dislike traffic noise a lot, so I sympathize. Our location is fine. Lots of houses to choose from. You will find the right one. Best of luck.

We live in Mulberry North very mature and quiet. The Frogs call this part of The Villages the 'country' being soooo quiet!

I would keep looking -- 1/4 mile is not far from the turnpike. You need to consider the noise and the quality of the air. I stayed in a hotel off of I-95 (NJ Turnpike) for several weeks -- my car was in an open air garage -- my car was covered in a layer of dirt.
In addition, the area south of 44 is being developed with more home and businesses so there will be more traffic and noise. One of the most important considerations in real estate is Location, Location, Location. Take your time to find the home that meets your needs. |

We live in Hawkins, which is off Meggison. We live deep in Hawkins, closer to Warm Springs (2500ish feet from the Turnpike, 4500' from the Service Plaza, and 1000' from Warm Springs. We can hear the Turnpike. We can hear Warm Springs, sometimes.
The Turnpike noise can be very loud at times, and almost not noticeable at others. It depends on the time of day, the wind direction, the clouds, and probably several other natural factors I am not considering. Some people are from parts of the country where they are conditioned to the noises -- if you live in a large city or other urban area, you may not notice. We came from a suburban area where there were only 20 homes on a 4 mile road. We had the smallest lot, at 2 acres. We are probably more sensitive to the noise than others. The Developer is building several hundred more homes in Hawkins between our house and the turnpike. We are hoping that their roof-lines deflect some of the noise. We ride bikes a lot and can say that if you are within a 1/4 mile of the turnpike along Meggison, you'll hear the turnpike. We've crossed the Water Lily bridge and you can hear the Turnpike along the Multi-Modal path the whole way -- and, in places along that path, it is deafening. Parts of St. John will be very close. Casson Hammock is adjacent. The West part of Citrus Grove is adjacent. If you are sensitive to noise, these Turnpike-adjacent neighborhoods will be a problem for you. Another thing unrelated to consider is that there is little commerce South of 44 right now. Quote:

Those home prices will be adjusted to the proximity to the turnpike. So, it depends on your budget more than anything. We live in Hawkins. We cannot hear the turnpike. However, we do hear cars on Morse and Warm Springs.

Make sure you listen on different days, and times because the time of day, and wind direction, and speed make a difference.

We ride our bikes through that area and there is no question, you Will hear the turnpike when you go outside. In my opinion after living in NY about 1/4 mike from 287 with walls, etc, the Villages is building to near major roads, the turnpike and power lines in the newer sections. There are going to be a lot of surprised new villagers when they take possession of their homes.
