Everyone will have an opinion. When I was looking, my dad had me so worried about being too close to the Turnpike that I became obsessed about it. I read so many posts with everyone’s opinions. One person loves the sound and opens the windows at night to hear it. I personally never leave my windows open at night so I thought, i don’t care about the turnpike as long as I can’t hear it inside. Well, I can hear it outside, barely and only if the situation lends itself. For example right now I can’t hear a thing. It’s so quiet outside. I hear nothing. I stood up on a chair and can see all the autos driving. I have heard it before but in the distance at night when I was outside but only because a truck drove by or something and made me aware of it. If you plan on leaving your windows open at night, then I’d say, maybe keep looking, otherwise, if you like the lot, go for it. I love Hawkins ( I assume that’s where you’re looking) I love all of south of 44 with the nature trails and the preserves. Yes, I guess the houses might be closer together but it feel more spread out to me with all the nature preserves. And I love love love Fenney. The houses seem more colorful to me too. Not sure.

That close you will hear road noise, your realtor is not your friend.

Remember, they are sales agents,( like car salesmen ) not Realtors. They will say anything to sell you a house

And someday either yourself or your heirs are going to sell and deal with people noticing noise.

Do you really believe that "Realtors" won't say anything to sell you a house??? A salesman is a salesman, doesn't matter what hat he or she's wearing. The only difference between a MLS realtor and a Villages Sales Agent is the realtor cannot sell you a new home or a building lot.

Very true and if you move in and cannot stand the noise the agent or realtor would love to sell you another one.

Hopefully join the villagers someday!
If you want quiet you need to be north of 466.

We live north of 466 (Santo Domingo) and don’t hear any turnpike noise at all, we do hear the sirens from the ambulances going to the hospital.

Default Turnpike noise

I definitely agree that it is well worth it to come down and pick out your lot or area at least. You can’t tell from a map what the overall nature and feel of the neighborhood is like. For example, there is one place in a newer area that has a VERY stinky water treatment plant right across from new homes going in. I could live with noise, but not the smell of sewage! Plus each neighborhood and village has a certain feel to it. It is such a big investment that I’d have to come down and at least scope out all of the new areas in person prior to buying!

A new home is going to be the biggest investment in your life so how do you pick something out without coming here?

I live about 1/4 from the turnpike. We can barely hear the noise and only from the lanai which faces the turnpike. There are two houses on a street behind us however. The problem that you might have is that there are very few houses for sale down here. I live north of Warm Springs and west of Meggison. It looks like the houses south of Warm Springs may be closer to the turnpike than I am.

Sound is a funny thing. We live in Calumet Grove and sometimes once in a great while it sounds like the train is coming through the middle of the house. Other times you never hear it. And also once in a while it sounds like there are cows mooing in our back yard even though the farms are nowhere close.

I actually don't mind either of these sounds. They are rare and far in between. But sound travels in weird ways sometimes and I would move further away especially if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors.

Correct. We have friends in Fenney and Marsh Bend and you can't hear a thing at their homes. We looked at homes in Chitty Chatty, Bradford and other parts of Marsh Bend. The noise was quite annoying, at best...

LOL! Yeah, THAT is the only quiet place in TV...

Sorry, but we're in Osceola Hills (just a few miles north of 44) and the only traffic we hear is our neighbors...
