Default Noisy trains???

I'm a new person at this...My husband & I are considering moving from NJ to the Villages in Calumet Grove and i've heard several dislikes about this area and am wondering if they are true or not???
Are the trains very noisy in this area, as we saw a pre-owned home that we liked on Lillywood ct. Thanks, all info would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to check the thread below. There's a lot of talk of train noise in the north end. I don't know anything about it, but some of our members seem quite adamant, especially Talk Host. Check it out.

My wife and I are also planning to move to TV. Based on information we found here at TOTV, I would personally not go anywhere near the railroad tracks. My understanding is that they are noisy and the rail traffic will be increasing over the next few years. Based on where you said you were looking, it would put you just east the tracks that parallel route US301. Google map the are you are thinking about and you will see just how close you will be to the tracks. Good luck on your future move.

The only time I heard it during my preview week was when I was up in the northwest section near Chatham on my way to Bruster's ice cream on 42.

Thanks Muncle, I looked at the Talk Host's web link, but looking where he lives in Chatham i can see his point to the noise of the choo choo would bother him....sorry to say. I guess we will have to see, cause my husband doesn't want to sit on the lanai & hear train sounds if we are that close in Calumet Grove....we might just be looking more for the right home away from the choo choo noise!!

Hope to be a Villager soon

I live in Piedmont and at times we do here the train, especially when the wind is out of the northwest. However, it is in the distance and more of a nostalgic sound than an annoyance. We live off Belle Meade close to Legacy Lane and the Chatham gate. Sometimes when I am at the Chatham pool it sounds like the train is coming right through the golf course and into the pool. Very loud and annoying, you can hear the train whistle and the rumble of the cars. From our house you just hear the whistle in the distance. My point.....depends on where you are looking in the area. At the Calumet Grove pool it is again a distant sound. Hope this helps.

Re: More about Trains
We are not Villagers yet, but hope to find a home in Sept/Oct timeframe of this year. My husband and I played golf with man from NYC in Nov. who's CV was destroyed by the tornado last year. When we mentioned the train noise to him, he told us a story about a group of lawyers who sued the Villages when they bought homes near the train noise and successfully won their lawsuit. Again, this is hearsay about the lawsuit. The train noise I know about because we stayed for a Villages visit in Chatham last Nov. BTW, did not hear the noise in Jan when we stayed in a villa next to Spanish Springs. Interestingly, our realtor also said she never knew about the train noise!!!! If there's any other nuisances we all should know about, please keep up the good will and let us know. God Bless You All!!!

If the lawsuit info was correct I'm sure that Talk Host would know about it.

I have heard nothing about this lawsuit, and you are right, if it was accurate, I'm pretty sure my neighbors and I would have heard about it.
