Me, I love TV, I love it more each and every time I'm there. It is A-OK with me that not everyone agrees. |

Oh.... I didn't understand these two posts and wasn't sure what the two ladies were talking about Now... I think I understand. I think everyone misunderstood my original post and to be fair, I don't think anyone meant to bully anyone. I apologize if anyone felt this was in any way to make anyone feel bad. I really did want to understand. I can't do that without asking the question. The thread took a turn, but I never felt it took a turn to harm anyone.

Please don't bully people for not posting.
I have been around long enough to see cliques really bully anyone who says anything the clique doesn't agree with on this board. I've also been around long enough to see some newbies change their feelings about this place after they have lived here a few years. The only reason I didn't post is I just saw this thread. I often don't have time to look at totv for days. I really really liked what Pturner,(thanks for saying it Ptuner) redwitch, Taj, Quirky3 and many others said. I also once thought this place was perfect. Showed it off to everybody. Now we get out of here whenever we can. Its a big beautiful world and we like new things, experiences, etc. Just like we loved it here for the first few years, it got old for us and things have changed. We don't hate it here. We see positive and negative here. However, The Villages has the best marketing system I have ever seen. All you ever hear is the positive over and over again. I would like a little balance. The main reason we stay is for all our good friends. Also, as I said many many times, I like the level of play in sports. On a postive note, everybody have a good night. |

I think that The Villages no longer buy TV time. Don't use billboards. Don't have salespeople that I have heard of or run into at open houses who pressure or even call you unless you ask them to. Don't do mass mailing. Probably haven't spent a penny on advertising in years unless you count their newspaper. The only place I can hear the song "Friendliest Hometown" is on their website.
Sweetie and I are always explaining to people back in Ohio just where in Florida that we live. They say..."Where is that?" or "What Village?" And then we tell them where it is in central Florida and how we enjoy it........until they start backing away. We do overdo it. I am sure they think we get five dollars a head. ![]() In our new village we have four couples now that we have met who have moved here from the coastal areas in Florida.

Very true, GG. If they were so good at marketing, then why did I hear about this place from a guy at work in 2008.

I don't live in the Villages currently but will one day in the future. People used to ask me why I was so interested in living there when I had not even visited. One word, Lifestyle. To me, you can be as busy or not busy as you want. I don't want to retire to sit on my butt in my rocking chair or in front of the TV. I want to play, play, play until I no longer can.
I have girlfriend who would hate it in the Villages, she moves often and always to places where she has no close neighbors. If she can see her neighbors it is a problem. She lived in one place where the closest grocery store was 45 minutes away. I would rather jam pins into my eyes than live someplace like that. She is also a poster child of how to screw up your retirement and have pennies to live on but that is another story completely. My Uncle Harry, couldn't wait to retire. When he did, he kicked back in his lazy boy with his beer and remote control and was dead 7 years later. My point is this, active, mentally stimulated, engaged people are proven to live longer. The Villages offer than environment. If you are bored, it is your own darn fault. I am an extrovert and I am sure will thrive in the Villages. I can't wait.

As a CEO, I got a free lifestyle visit. My friend who is is the VP of Purina just got an invitation to stay free at his convenience. That's marketing.
A few friends were golfing in Scotland and they all got invitations to stay free. They are also in conversations to get another golf pro to live here. They gave Nancy Lopez a great deal for her to live here. They have offered deals to many golf pros. That marketing. When you get on every major news media by having a book tour, a governor, high profile Republicans, visit or A President to be, that is marketing. It doesn't just happen. It costs for the security, lodging for the entourage, meals, entertainment, transportation. That's all marketing. How about having FOX news broadcast from here twice. Have any idea what that cost or how many people that reached? That's marketing. I get how anybody who is looking forward to moving here( I did too) or is new here or just loves it. Enjoy it. Phone is ringing and I've got much to do today. Everyone have a great day! |
