I am the one who plays the music at the pool in discussion.
I have been doing so since the pool opened. I do not play
the music that has been discribed in this forum. I do not
consider it loud either. I know you can't please everyone.
I am often asked to turn it up in fact. If you took a poll
at this pool whether to have my music or not, I would be
surprised if there was more than one negative vote. That
is why I play the music for my neighbors. Being new and
walking into a setting that is already established may be
the issue here. Maybe the "reader" should have given the
pool setting a chance before complaining in this forum.

So if I went to this pool and did not like your music and asked you to turn the music down to a personal level would you do it?

JimRoy, it would be interesting to take a poll but it would have to be anonymous. Many people are too polite to say anything to you about your music and others would just move on to a another pool even though it's inconvenient for them to do so. When you set up speakers and play your music loud enough for everyone at the pool to hear it's in my book entitlement. Of course the people who enjoy it will stay but how many others have left and felt resentlful that their only recourse was to leave. It's a question of respecting boundaries. In my Village we have pool parties where people can bop around and socialize but on a daily basis most wear ear buds or read, chat and respect their neighbors space.

Default Pool music

I'm one of the people who go to this pool and we have taken a poll. People have come on this thread and posted they like the music. I like the music. It's not loud and it's very nice.

It's the people who do not live in this area and one new person who are upset. Our pool is pretty full most of the time. I'm told the other pools are empty. Then go there.

Most of us would be more upset if the music went away. Please let us enjoy our pool and you enjoy yours.

Angie. The Sanibel pool is mine too..even if I have never been there, don't intend to go and don't have a dog in the fight.

All pools belong to all Villagers except for Orange Blossom, and the Country Club pools that have paid membership.

It sounds like a clique has taken over The Sanibel pool and they don't want any discussion on what is fair to their neighbors.

Look, I have the utmost respect for my neighbors and friends.
The women, who I did see leave that day, was off base and has
no idea abouy what goes on at the pool. She needed a different
venue for her reading. But to be clear, I could care less whether
I play my music or not. I do so because the folks who frequent
the pool ask me to. If you are not there, you have no idea what
this women is talking about and the discription that has been
potrayed about my music is not a fair rendering of what is being
presented. I take offence at some newbee complaining about
something that has been a normal practice since the pool opened.
The folks who have responded to the thread have taken this whole
thing out of true context. Besides......you should hear what I have
to offer. My peeps love it and thats all that counts....CHOW!

I wish I were closer, I think I’d like to hang out at the Sanibel pool. It sounds like an enjoyable atmosphere. I go to the pool to cool off in the water, to get exercise and to socialize. And music makes all of those things more enjoyable for me. I wish they at least piped in music at the neighborhood pools.

The pools, including the neighborhood pools, are social gathering spots. Sometimes neighbors gather and put together tables and play games or have parties. Residents bring their adult family members there for family gatherings. People talk and laugh. People have fun. And fun isn’t usually library-quiet.

The Odell pool has The Villages radio station playing. I thought all pools did. I couldn't understand why someone would play music over the local radio station.

How many of you have music at their closest pool. (That also belongs to ME....and everyone....)

I totally agree.... I personally did not come to TV to be by myself and complain about people socializing, music playing and fun being had by all. People who do not want to be bothered should stay home and read...........

I've got the toughest Tiger you ever saw in this hunt. She is about 5'2 and weighs about 115 pounds soaking wet. She is usually at the pool at least 4 or 5 days a week. We live in Sanibel now! Unfortunately, last winter due to a trip and all the moving "stuff"----you know decorating----buying new furniture for the new house----etc. etc. she was probably only at the pool 10 or 12 times. I was a the pool maybe twice myself. You see I would rather golf than swim or sunburn. Nothing unusual going on then----can't even remember any music-----if there was it wasn't noticed by either of us. All we can remember are some very nice people "hanging" around the pool.

Lori: Sorry for your impression (and others) of Sanibel Pool. This thread has gotten completely out of hand. My Tiger can "charm" ol' JimRoy and his band of followers so that the music is at a level (if at all) that you and me can enjoy a "read" without loud interruptions. I know because I've seen her work a crowd before! After all, he is a Jim---- just like me and I know has to be a reasonable very nice guy. Heck, we have probably talked before! Unlike our Representatives in Washington, I think we can come to a reasonable compromise on this music thing. What do you think?

You are right this post has gotten out of context, all I asked if it was "the norm" for people to play their music, IMHO I did think the music was a little loud but if that is what the majority likes than my intent is not to disrupt that practice. I like music, I like socializing and talking to people at the pool. If I want to read and find the music distracting I will read elsewhere or tune into my iPod.

So no compromise necessary, the majority is for the music, don't change a thing, ENJOY and I will to next time I am there! Can we just forget this whole topic?
