It got old real fast.

My wife and I both asked them if they could turn it down just a little on several occasions and they usually turned it down, but after a few days they would once again start it up.

Finally, I reached my breaking point. I went to Panama City and bought the biggest boombox I could find. I put it out on my back deck and pointed it directly at their home. Knowing that most Panamanians abhor U.S. country music, I dug out an old David Alan Coe CD and let it rip. It drowned out their music. We left the house with it still playing (and on auto repeat) and went to the beach. When we returned home their music had been turned off and they never blared it again.

I really do believe in trying to be diplomatic at first, but when diplomacy fails, it's time to bring out the big guns!
Very funny, but problem solved!

Our first year here we went to the community pools, put up with same problem , someone coming in blasting their music, the love bugs, not enough shade, people talking right next to you when your reading so we put our own pool in. Best thing we ever did. We love the peace and quiet. It is rude though. I agree. Only thing you can do is ask them to turn it off and who knows if they will be considerate enough to do it. sort of like asking someone to stop kicking your chair at the movies or stop talking behind you. If they don't have the common sense to appreciate not everyone may enjoy their music I'm not sure how far you'll get but Good Luck.
Is this thread discussing a particular neighborhood pool, or is there one in particular that is bothering someone. I read general statements about how the music does not bother them, but I now wonder if they are talking about the "same" pool. Perhaps the problem is more pervasive at one, than the other. Just wondering...

Please list the pools where folks listen to music, talk to each other and let their beer bellies hang out. Hmmmmm, I'm there.

Are there pools for visitors and pools for just residents?
Let's think of a remedy before getting into any unwanted confrontations.
I've been here a fair number of years and have never run into this situation, just to assure anarick. Someone mentioned Sanibel. Does this happen more in the newer areas?

We have only been here 11 months (and we do go to the pool regularly), but have yet to encounter this type of behavior. We usually go to Santiago but occasionally go to Springdale for a change of pace.

People often go with a friend or have meet ups. While I agree that blasting music is a disruption for many, that is an issue onto itself, you have to expect that people will be talking and maybe even get a little loud at the pool as they have groups gathering, or are having a good time. You cannot expect to have a totaly quiet isolative experience when you go to a public pool. The only place you can expect to have exactly the ambience and behavior that you want is inside your own home and in your own backyard. The rest is up for grabs. You cannot control, dictate or put your own expectations on others talking or having a good time while you want quiet and peacefulness for yourself in a public pool, park or other setting. There should be respect of course, but it is a recreational experience, it is a pool. it is a gathering place, it is for everyone. I live by Live Oaks Park, I have heard people from the park in my backyard talking and laughing, I love it. Life is all around me, how lucky I am to hear happy people living and enjoying their lives.

Jane, thank you for the friendly sentiment. If I ever get fortunate enough to move to TV someday, I hope to have neighbors just like you.

This certainly was not a raucous gathering, but one of the best times I had at TV when I rented last month was at the Chula Vista pool when pool side bingo was played for approximately 2 hours on a Thursday morning. What nice, friendly people I met playing bingo by the pool. And I learned several new bingo games that morning! My bingo loving grandmother would have loved this!

I'm with you, I think it's very rude for people to blast their music in public places. We all have different tastes in music anyway, but many of us like to read and relax at the pool. I don't think this is common but unfortunately there are inconsiderate people everywhere.

Ok, here's the scoop; at my pool we start off the day with a prayer service and them proceed to a day long meditation which includes a floating meditation (that's meditation, not medication). Occasionally we stop for a refreshing fruit punch. Once a month we have a harpist come to serenade us. Also, we are fortunate to have a neighbor who is a hairdresser and 2X's a month we all get a blue rinse in our hair.

Posh, consider this an open invitation to join our pool party.

Sounds like an attorney's approach to get a ruling from a judge on a matter to me...

Or you can "Do the Right thing" and take a baseball bat to Radio Raheem's boombox.
