Question Roaches

Is anyone else finding these large roaches ( palmetto bugs ) in their homes from time to time. Found our second one in 3 months.

Bill, I have had them outside my house in abundance this summer for the first time in the 4 years I've lived here. Thankfully, never found them inside. My exterminator looked at them and said they are not palmetto's, that's what I thought they were, but he said they were a kinda beetle?? Not sure this is what you have seen but I do think my wonderful exterminator has kept them down to a minimum and they have not come into the house... I would recommend getting a professional pest control company to spray around your house, the lawn and inside the house also. Good Luck!!

Actually, we have moved into their home. You cannot eliminate them 100%.

Had one hop out of a bag of potatoes after coming home from the grocery store. He went swimming in the toilet!

as long as you are in FL and have palms trees of any kind in your yard or near by....you will get a palmetto bug on occasion even when your house is professionally treated.

If you see one in the house that has been treated they are usually moving pretty slow as the poison has already hit them.

If your home happens to be untreated you will find they are extremely fast and if you don't get 'em on the first swing....forget it!!

Welcome to FL.

The extremely mild winter and hot summer rainfall etc was prime breeding ground for the Brazilian roach. When you or your neighbor trim palm trees you stir them up. so you may find a roach entering the house normally from the air vents. My pest control guy says they only live 72 hours in a home and I said it was 72 hours too long. I had worked down on my home twice this summer requiring the font door to remain open whiles workers did their thing and each time was greeted by a raoch in the morning. My pest guy has been here three times for this reason alone. He told me that most of their calls in The Villages has been for this problem.. So hope for a good cold snap this winter. May I suggest that if you do find a roach and can get to it. Save it so that your pest control guy can identify it to determine what type of roach it is. Brazilian roaches are not normally found in food produce so be especially careful to save the specimen for your pest control guy whom I have deemed the best guy

Now that's funny!!! hehehehehehehe.

One time a big roach flew in my door. They do fly, you know. I thought it was a bird, it was so big. I chased the 'bird' into my bedroom and there he was, sitting on my bed,...

A big ole stinky cockroach. Wacked it with a shoe. All gone.

Bought first snowbird home in 2005. Retired and moved full time to larger home in 2009. Never saw a Palmetto...not once! Until...we were in Sanibel Island this past week. IT WAS HUGE and UGLY and GROSS! If I ever see one in our house here, I will scream, run, jump around, and go absolutely crazy. My hubby better be close by or I'll have to evacuate until someone can come and get rid of it.

Actually I think what we like to call a Palmetto bug is the American cockroach. In the north we only were lucky enough to meet those little german cockroaches. I lived in
the historic district of Wilmington NC in a 100 year plus condo. I was sitting on the deck one night and switched the light on and I swear there were no less than 20 of those gross things climbing up the walls. UGH.
