Default Please Don't Assume Someone is Being an AH.

On Fri our dog had an emergency situation (he recovered and is fine now) But I needed to get him to the vet ASAP. I had my flashers on and was flashing the headlights on 466A, not one person pulled over, and one that I passed, sped up to pull behind me and put his bright lights on.
Please don't assume that someone is just being an AH. Sometimes there are very legitimate reasons for trying to get someplace quickly. We can't know what is going on with someone else.
Yes, there are idiots here that will go fast just because they can, but realize that they will always be an AH.....you can get on with your life and just be happy that you are not them! Karma is alive and well, I have seen it happen more times than not.

yes I would think you are an ah, yes you want to get to the vet as fast as possible......but your endangering me and eveyrone around you. putting on your flashers and hi beaming other drivers makes no sense, other driver have no idea what your up to , heck most driver don't even see the police most of the time. just go to the vet as safe as you would go to the store.

There are so many of them, I think they are spreading. I have given up using directional lights to change lanes. When you do the person who is behind you in the lane you are trying to get into will almost always speed up to prevent you moving over. Just this AM I turned left from Beleverdere onto 466 and got in the most left lane as I entered 466. Which is correct. I wanted to go to Fresh Market so needed to move to center than the right lane. Used directional lights. BIG mistake. Every car would intentionally speed up to prevent me. I had to go to the Walmart entrance and back track as it took me so long to change lanes.

Last week in a golf cart I was going North just past Bridgeport at Lake Sumter entrance and a lady in a golf in front of me was trying to do something with a package or bag on the passenger side floor. She actually slowed to 12 mph and went off the path twice she was so distracted. So I went past her. I actually heard her say "no you don't" and she speeded up as fast as possible and tried to run me off the path.

What is wrong with people?????

While most of us sympathize with you wanting to take care of your beloved pet, nowhere in Florida Statutes are you allowed to "Sometimes there are very legitimate reasons for trying to get someplace quickly." Your actions endangered other drivers who had no clue as to why you were in such a hurry, yourself, and your dog. Apparently your dog survived the so called emergency and in reality your "other drivers" comment is moot! Get over it!

I am glad that your dog survived. You could have been pulled over by the police though for speeding and that might have cost your dog his life.

Too bad that as far as I can tell Florida law still treats pets as property. Not something you can break the law to get to safety. I could be wrong about this though. Pets as Property? | FindLaw

For years law enforcement has told us not to pull over when someone comes up behind flashing lights. This is a know robbery tactic. Sorry, I'm not pulling over. And yes, driving quickly, flashing high beams in rear view mirrors, etc. indeed creates a hazard for others.

Actually it's safe to assume that.... chances of being correct here are pretty high.

I love dogs as much as anyone and have 2 of them myself but this was reckless behavior. You could have killed someone.

Yes...this is true. On that note..how many of you have seen it done during a down-pour rain??? THAT too is illegal. If it's that un-safe, then pull over until you con proceed.

I'm glad your pet is fine but truly you weren't doing the right thing in driving as you did.

Your tale does not make much sense. If, you were turning on your flashers you were in a CAR a golf cart. Why did you not drive to the vet?

For that matter would you have stopped?

Do you not have a FRIEND who can count on you and who you can count on? Do you not have a cell phone? If, you do not, you can buy one cheep and get on one of the pay as you go plans-about .10 a minute.

I think many of you are missing the point here. If you aren't passing or turning left soon you would not have been in front of anyone as you should not be in the fast lane unless you are passing.
This is also a Florida State law but is never enforced. Once it is... many blue hairs will be missing an awful lot of bingo money.

Default Sorry but..........

Me thinks your biggest mistake was sharing your story with many who haven't been in your shoes before..No more stressful or helpless situation than having a beloved pet along side you in your car whimpering in pain NOT being able to tell you what is wrong. My wife and I were called and told to get to the Vet ASAP as our beloved fur baby was slipping fast and though we did drive with some urgency we didn't take any chances. When we went inside we saw her laying alone on the metal table gone, we were told we missed saying goodbye by less than 3 minutes.. Just 5mph faster and she wouldn't have passed without her family there and it hurts me bad to this day. I for one respect your judgement, though motoring 100mph down Morse flashing your brights is one thing I choose to believe you were doing what you felt was necessary in the moment.
