I could have written your post. Our neighborhood is very quiet and probably, very Republican, but ones political preference is never discussed and we all get along really well. We had a new couple move into our very established small area this past year and immediately hung out their mile long streamers showing their political preference. We are all polite to them, but nobody actually engages them in conversation because you will never get away. I am sure it must be uncomfortable for them and they may not stay too long, but it is a problem that did not need to be.

Default Signs and opinions

I am really amazed and how childish some of these seniors Act. If you don't like an opinion, or a sign or comment on this board simply please skip it if you or so agitated by something maybe it's time to go on medication. Our Nation was built on new ideas different than those of Great Britain that we should have more rights and self governance then letting a king tell us what to do . go read your history books and understand what a difference of opinion is all about. When the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights or written it was great innovation and yet you didn't hear complaints and I don't want to hear your side of the story these men were great thinkers and we have them to appreciate our freedoms today

Crude Obscene Signs on Golfcarts ..... some would say that any sign with a particular name on it is obscene ... is that what you mean?

Considering what Jefferson actually did to destroy Hamilton ... that quote seems to have been sarcastic.

I think you need to re-read some history. You don't seem to understand WHY the Bill of Rights was written and WHY the USA felt the need to declare its independence from Britain.

Hint: It had to do with complaints against the government resulting in war.

Good statement" I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend"

Thomas Jefferson .

Excellent thought for the day.

I thought I had friends till they dropped us .

Proselytizing religion is bad enough but these are POLITICIANS of which 90% are in it for just the power and money. Can you "love" someone so much you need huge signs to prove it? If so why doesn't anyone put signs with their wife or grandkids on the big obnoxious signs? I guess you love politicians more than family? What have politicians ever done for you that they deserve such adulation? This is SICK. Outsiders laugh at what goes on around here. The parades, the political flags, the signs. It's embarrassing for both sides. I dare to say there is nowhere else that is so obnoxiously involved with proclamations of such overwhelming adoration for a bunch of scoundrels like politicians ON BOTH SIDES. Just go vote for your fave. Why do we need this embarrassing show?

Whew. Now I feel better!
The preceding was MY OPINION, YMMV.
You are right. I would NEVER vote for ANY candidate because of a bumper sticker or lawn sign. Where a lawn sign might prove useful is in advertising some candidate I haven’t heard of for some office that isn’t often in the news, such as dog-catcher. I have never even heard of anyone voting for a different presidential candidate because of a sticker or sign. As for television advertising, I figure that an ad against a candidate is likely to be a lie or exaggerated, and so is an ad in favor of a candidate, no matter which party.

Maybe signs and bumper stickers serve a purpose similar to, say, wearing articles of clothing with a team name on them. They let us recognize other people supporting our team, so we can wave, throw out encouraging words, have things in common. Maybe no one seriously thinks those big signs change people’s minds.

Maybe we should have secret hand gestures that indicate our side. (Some people use hand gestures to salute people on opposing sides, but they are rude.) Sure, we have thumbs up signs and ok signs. I use those all the time. But maybe we should have signs like those secret Masonic hand gestures. Maybe we should have secret red or blue or green handshakes! Oh, wait, we don’t shake hands anymore. Hey, how about a V sign made with the second and third fingers to indicate donkey ears and a similar sign with second and third fingers curved up to indicate elephant tusks?

There's this thing called the First Amendment to the Constitution. You know, that founding document of our nation? I'll bet there is no political signage in Venezuela, Cuba, or North Korea. You could always move to where the citizens have very few, if no, rights...

But, I wonder if these signs do any good in changing anyone's mind when it's time to vote.
I think for some they do. If the sign supports your candidate some would give a thumbs up or a peace sign. If the sign disparages your candidate some would give a half a peace sign. So, no change there. However, if you're an independent a really ugly sign might just be the impetus to go against haters who brandish those signs and vote the other way. I don't know about others but hateful rhetoric does nothing but solidify my choice. Give me facts, not rumors or opinions and then I might be inclined to change my position.

I agree you have a right to display your political signs but you couldn’t put some of these signs on your car windshield by law and shouldn’t put them on your cart windshield. It’s blocking you view which is dangerous

Let's get back to the original point. It is the vulgarity not the fact of having a sign. I too object to the verbiage because of it's vulgarity.
I have been tempted to call police because of it. Not the choice of candidate.

Freedom of speech permits anything you want on your own property. You cannot put your behavioral expectations on other people's behavior. What is offense to you may actually be facts to those who do the research.

Your behavioral expectations do not matter to me. What is vulgar to you may merely be the truth. Did you forget the first amendment? Freedom of speech is alive and well and that does not matter what you may think about the speech. The police will laugh at your call.
