Implicitly or explicitly, everyone agreed to the rules of pool use. Ignoring the rules when it is known to offend the rights of others is wrong by any measure.
There is nothing in the "guidelines" posted on district.gov about music. Care to share the location of the "rules" we all signed up for?

OrangeBlossum earlier in this thread posted the citation which applies, and upon which my comment relies.

That is my question.

I can't seem to find that citation in this thread, could you point me towards it please?

What I see seems to be people merely assuming what the rules are with no actual proof that they are actually legit rules.

Why should you leave your neighborhood pool to go to another pool when someone else is breaking the rules?

Of course you could blare your favorite band, Tool, next time to get your point across. There’s probably only 2 of us in TV that actually like them, it’s sure to succeed.
i HAD to respond--YES! i love Tool, even though i am female & not supposed to. *they also have the best videos.

Well... Many said the rule is: NO PERSONAL MUSIC is to be played in public pools, other than what can sometimes be pumped out in the pools' own sound system. One response actually asked me if I only cowardly ask questions on TOTV or ever confront people. This wasn't even worth a reply since I clearly originally stated I didn't know what the protocols were. But today, equipped with the rules, I decided to ask the person at Southside pool in the historic district if he could turn down the volume on his system (playing X-Mas music). Here is what happened. He said sure, and turns it down, then guy in pool starts yelling "hey why are you turning the music down"? Guy explains about my request than guy in pool goes nuts, saying it's X-mas time and am I a visitor, and Pffffff about the rules. So yea, just like I figured, selfish A..holes will always want to have their way. I wish I had asked him "what would Jesus think right now" but knew better. No, there's no attendant at that pool to complain to, and no I can't build my own pool. But maybe from now on, it'll be suntanning in my driveway, if i can find a lounge chair!

There is a bigger picture here. You and the guy playing the music had worked things out in a nice way.

There are lots of gentlemen in TV.

BUT — the loudmouth in the pool could not keep out of it. That windbag was a cliche.

Those types go around in a state of seething anger. (whether they realize it or not) They are easily triggered by just about anything that gives them a place to vent that anger.

Those cliches — like the interfering, yelling one in the pool — stupidly, and automatically, confuse bullying with manliness, which is ironic (and telling) because adult bullies suffer from deep insecurity about their own manhood.

These types especially like to run their ignorant mouths at women and if they feel like they have an audience of their own kind, they really like that.

Boomer

PS and btw: I think inflicting one’s personal taste in music on everyone within hearing distance in a public place is obnoxious, arrogant, and just plain rude. But there are those who just don’t know any better or are thoughtless or it could be a pathetic bid for attention. AirPods or earbuds are the mannerly answer. But for some reason, they don’t think or care about that.

My errors.

All my references in this post to OrangeBlossum should have been to the op - La lamy

Funkman, you are correct the op (La lamy) only noted she looked up the rules but did not specify much detail. I have observed many of her other posts over time that have been based on truth, so I trust La lamy's posts implicitly. But I too share your hunger for more details,

But is it really anymore "obnoxious, arrogant, and just plain rude" than subjecting those within hearing distance of say, one's medical problems or other personal issues?

It's a double edged sword

Yeah, all I'm looking for are definitive answers.

I did email the VCDD in hopes of getting them, now we wait.

If majority overrides the rules, then you need to either change the rules, or accept that you failed in enforcing them.

I know most people would love to not have to stop at every single stop sign, come to a complete and full stop. But most people also will obey the rules, most of the time, because they know there are consequences if they are caught disobeying them.

Enforcement doesn't mean someone has to watch you 24/7. It just means you acknowledge that IF a fuss is made, YOU will be the one with the consequences.

That's is why the person in the pool needed to just let it go, and accept a lower volume on someone ELSE's radio. Because if the guy in the pool is making a fuss and insulting a person who also pays amenity fees, and chooses to abide by the rules, then it's the guy in the pool who needs to be shown the gate out of the pool area.

Even if she is a minority of one. The rules were made to ensure a peaceful enjoyable visit to anyone authorized to be there. It's also why splashing and play-fights are also not allowed. It's also why people under 30 are not allowed in the adult pools.

Are there actual rules for bringing and playing music at the pools?

If it's just a question of the music being too loud? Does it only apply to music brought in from outside? Can the 'piped in' music be changed by those at the pools or is it controlled remotely?

I've been toying with the idea of trying to put together pool 'listening parties' of various shows/artists, so any help with these questions would be appreciated.

From what I've been able to dig up for actual rules, there's a lot of unanswered questions and I'd like to have my ducks in a row before bringing it up to those who would ultimately have the final word.

Thanks in advance for any assistance
Have you contacted the rec department?

Thanks, I contacted the CDD, is the rec dept. a different entity? And if so, do you have any idea which would be the final authority on the subject?
