Well, let me clarify a few things to the haters, the bullies, the nasty attitudes and sarcastic comments that I have received.
1. I am not a novice user of TOTV. I spend my days playing golf, pickleball, walking and a member of many clubs here in TV. I live on the golf course with a pool and lanai which to me, along with all the other things life has to offer in TV, is heaven on earth. Being home now, I was curious to find out what the attraction was to taking a dog to the postal center surroundings to do their business. 2. I live adjacent to the postal center and have a clear view of the Postal Center, amenities area, parking lot and the pool, along with the golf course that backs up to it. 3. When I first moved here, it was a gathering place for all the neighborhood to enjoy. We would get out and sit on benches, watch the sunsets, place shuffleboard and corn toss. 4. Over the years, they have replaced the sod four times. No one goes there anymore because it has become a dog park. We don’t take our grandchildren up there anymore because it is crowded and the residue from dogs urinating and defecating is not a healthy environment for them to play in the grass and pick up corn bags. 5. Now, with limited access at certain times and little monitoring, some dog owners are now letting their dogs loose on the golf course playing frisbee and doing business on the greens. You are right, I don’t need to be posting on TOTV, although I have an extensive career and a PHD, I obviously do not know how to word things, even though no matter how I worded my post, something tells me the results would have been the same. In closing, if any of you frequent users of TOTV can tell me how and if I can close this thread, I would be deeply appreciative. Proud to be known as the nice guy, loved by family and respected by friends and colleagues. Makes for a wonderful life. |

Dogs are certainly allowed in the postal areas. The sign is referring to the recreation area behind the postal building. Personally checked it out for myself just now in McClure and it clearly states this.

I like to walk my dog in the open common areas of the Villages rather than my nieghbors front yard.

[QUOTE=karostay;1754936] I did go and the sign says. RECREATION AREA - no dogs. It is not referring to the postal station and is placed is front of the recreation area, not the postal station. There is no sign at Willowtree postal banning dogs.

Fisherman u & others just like to complain! It’s “common area” which means they have as much right to it as u do.

I walk my dog to the mailboxes every now and then as destination for my walk and back. I have a theory for you...
I think dog owners bring their dogs in their carts to pick up mail because they know others who go at the same time. It allows the dogs AND their pawrents the opportunity to “socialize” for a few minutes as well. Dogs need socialization, and many don’t go to dog parks. I don’t think they go just for a place for the dogs to do their business, but with some people...ya never know. |

You would never know that the owners have a home with grass areas. I’ve lived in a lot of different communities over the years, but I’ve never experienced dog owner behavior as I have in TV.

The answer to everyone who wonders, asks, is just curious, or complains about is exactly what you wrote: “I never knew when the urge would strike them even after they had pooped in their prepared potty area on our own property.” They think you should pull your dog away if they start to... the dogs should do it in the street instead (can’t even rinse the residue... so that’s better? ) They say that if they’re properly trained, the should NEVER do it.... If a couple of dogs are there when you’re there, I’m sure it isn’t ALL time, and it isn’t a PACK of dogs. People just like to rant about it and make it sound as if the mailbox areas have become the new local dog parks and, as a result, there’s a TON of poop that NO ONE picks up. Oh, c’mon now! Exaggeration runs rampant. If there are many dogs there on a regular basis you might have something to complain about...if complaining is your thing. |

You are correct. The postal stations are a place to socialize and our dogs need to socialize as well. My typical practice is that when I pick up my mail my dog comes with me. Sometimes we walk, sometimes we take the golf cart. She adores the cart! My friends bring their dogs and they get to see their “friends”. Should my dog poop while there I ALWAYS pick it up. I have a poop bag dispenser on her leash. I wish I could say they about everyone in my community but sadly I cannot. It is so annoying to everyone who is civil. My dog has free access to our yard, but I will continue to take her to the postal station. I am uncertain as to why you find fault with that especially since you are a dog lover like me. When I was looking at houses here my realtor told me that a dog was the best way to make friends here. Perhaps you can explain why this bothers you because I honestly don’t understand.
