I think what Diane is saying is to "compare apples to apples". I too have had electricity off for weeks after my homes were damaged in multiple hurricanes, but that electricity outage is impossible to fix overnight. This outage seems like a slow reaction to probably an easy fix which SECO most likely caused through their own negligence. A different scenerio totally. I for one hope it does not become a recurring problem due to all the new construction.

NOT! my elec supplier - jersey central power and light - is 'light years' behind providing its customers with up-to-date transmission equipment! my 8 days without power were the result of out-of-state repair crews having to search for and when not found MANUFACTURE rube goldberg replacement parts for what they defined as ANTIQUE equipment that they had not seen in AGES!

the only aspect of shared misery came while standing in line every day for a bag of ice for the refrigerator and a half case of bottled drinking water; and waiting outside the car in the cold and wind for 5 gals of gas for the generator that we paid thru the nose for and waited in line to purchase on day 3 of the outage.

the power outage described in this thread is nothing in comparison!

Perhaps, Diane, it was when you stated that it was "another nail in Florida's coffin" and that SECO only provides lip service that some people took umbrage. Many of us like our homes in Florida and feel SECO does a very, very good job at providing electrical service. Unfortunately, electrical outages and issues can occur even with the best electric companies and in the most wonderful states in the Union and that may explain why it's happening with SECO in Florida.

Hoping your power is back to normal soon.

There's no validity in what you say. Power flicking on and off is nothing more than a minor nuisance. What we experienced following Sandy was miserable and life threatening. We were lucky to only be without power for 6 days and believe me, there was no shared misery, just misery. Families with small children and elderly people had no heat for days. They had no lights and now way to heat food or keep what provisions they had in their refrigerators and freezers from rotting. What little dry ice you could score was worthless but it made the politicians proud.
The utility companies failed miserably in getting the power up. While some of the outside power companies were useful, others accomplished nothing. While I was out with my chainsaw clearing downed trees 3 days after the storm a bucket truck from Michigan stopped by to ask for directions. I asked if they were in the area to get power back for us. The power company guy said nope, they were just looking for downed lines.
We were taking ice cold showers in late October and early November in New York with absolutely no indication of when the situation would be resolved. Recovery from this storm was mismanaged by politicians and power companies. Oh, and by the way, there are still those who have not recovered from Sandy.
Shared misery my butt! For you to try to magnify this simple annoyance into a great tragedy rivaling what we went through last fall is laughable.

Although it was annoying, this is the first time we have experienced any type of interruption. Having lived through snow storms in October and major storms in August taking down trees everywhere and leaving CT residents with no power for 15 days, this is a breeze. I'll take SECCO over Northeastern Utilities any day.

Best to just wait until the power is back on for a while and then go reset everything.

SECO in my opinion is an excellent company and has regular people just like us and our families working there and I don't believe they had a conspiracy to aggravate or give lip service to anyone. Mistakes and problems happen to any service. After working for a public utility company for many years you can bet they were just as upset about having to answer about what happened as those affected.

Why not ask for a tour of their operations and you will see it is not that simple....
