Default Mind-Boggling

I don’t post often. I really detest the debate between all of the ‘smartest kids in the class’ this site features … yet here I go into the deep end. I work part time in The Villages. I made that point clear to both the multiple Community Watch employees that I talked to as well as to the man who leads that group … only as a reference that I too am employed here. The issue is the area on Morse Blvd. approaching 466 traveling south. Before Morse splits from 2 lanes to 4 … getting closer to 466 (prior to Hurricane Ian) there have always been gate arms … it’s purpose I think is to slow traffic approaching a dangerous intersection. Those gate arms haven’t returned. They placed 1 stop sign on the right side of the road. An hour after my 1st call to Community Watch a stop sign was added on the left side. The problem… no one stops. I have literally watched ( from my golf cart in a safe distance from that area) well over 100 cars travel through without braking let alone stop. I stop … and several times have had tailgaters to have to apply their brakes in a hurry! It’s a bad accident waiting to happen! Shame on Community Watch for not doing a better job at monitoring and remedying that part of Morse! Have at it.

There have been articles on various sites explaining that they are changing out the card readers, therefore numerous gates would be down.

They rarely stopped on Belvedere near the Villages High School during the recent days when there was no gate just one and then two stop signs. Cars ahead of me just went on through. I would stop. But then the cars behind me would also go through without any kind of stop.

True, but, OP has a point. When a traffic signal or other traffic safety device is out of service, other means of traffic control are employed, such as uniformed officers or mobile traffic lights and cameras. The Little stop signs are ok if someone is working on the gates, but they are otherwise useless.

How about shame on the people that don't STOP?

Another problem is the gates are to close to the intersections this is throughout TV. It doesn't take much for traffic to back up into the intersections, especially if big trucks are involved.

It would be more logical to have SLOW signs with cones rather than STOP which will just potentially cause rear ending.

Why not just eliminate them (stop signs) and the guards since they all are useless.

First problem is why the gate arms are down so long (many days)? Going south at that gate, people have no reason to stop, like other gates, as there is no multimodal crossing after the gate (all cross north of the gate), only CR466 lights. Fix gates one direction and one location at a time, so arms are only inoperable while lane is blocked for the repair.

I suggested aggressive speed bumps in lieu of gates, most folks don't want to bottom out their car and it gives the camera enough time to do it's thing????? Thoughts?

It wouldn't take long for people to get the hint. One or two good bounces would do it.

The same problem existed at the El Santiago/El Diablo starter shack area. It runs two adjacent courses so there was probably twice as much cart traffic there as at (assumedly) other starter shacks. There were always the cowboys who could come blowing through there heedless of any other cart (or human) traffic, and as I understand it a lot of close calls (maybe some accidents too). But they did the trick. Cart traffic has slowed waaaaay down there.

Default Golf carts

Hi Drivers in golf carts do not stop for stop signs here in Orange Blossom. The 4 way stop by the Church they go right through as if the stop sign isn’t there. Very dangerous for sure. Even the cars go through the stop sign where the gate is down. An accident just waiting to happen for sure. Please we all need to stop completely if you have a stop sign Not just roll on through. Be safe

You might want to give the V i l l a g e s - N e w s discussion groups a try.

It's a bit less "cerebral" over there.

Fire trucks and ambulances don’t like speed bumps.
For weeks now, the attendants on moyer loop are waving people thru the gate without stopping which is dangerous with golf cart traffic right after the gate because going north bound, the gate keepers shack hides the traffic from the golf cart driver

Default What about golf carts?

This is also a golf cart community. That gate has always been a problem for southbound golf carts at busy times. Sitting in the middle awaiting a gap in the peak traffic and having to dash across when there is the hint of a gap was bad enough when the gates were in use. With no stopping of the northbound traffic, it will be almost impossible to cross in a golf cart. Yes, I know they don't want traffic backing up onto 466 but if hey let 2 residents through to every one visitor it would create better gaps for golf carts to cross. I look forward to the common sense responses as well as the comedians.
