My husband and I were returning from Spanish Springs via the golf cart trail adjacent to 466 this afternoon. We were almost hit by a rental golf cart driven by a teenage boy. He was racing and trying to pass another rental cart that also was driven by a teenage boy. There were three white rental carts following each other with a total of 7 teenagers. This kid just pulled out on a curve and thanks to my husbands quick reflexes he was able to brake and swerve to the right onto the grass. The kid pulled back into his lane and yelled sorry! I won't tell you what my husband responded.

What is it going to take to wake up The Village Golf Cart Store to keep them from renting to anyone that just wants to drive around our trails for their amusement. Does someone have to be seriously injured or be killed before they realize they are being reckless by renting to minors.

It could be that the rental places don't know that the teens are being turned loose with the carts. I cannot imagine that they would rent the carts to them, anyway. In any event, they need to know that this is happening and the only way is for someone to tell them. Too many parents just don't take the time to explain to them that they are not toys. (Of course, some of the parents and grandparents haven't figured that out, either.) Thank goodness, you didn't get hit and hurt. This is what could end up costing us the privilege of cart travel and that would be a shame. TV also needs to be made aware of this as it could definitely affect sales, etc. We lose the carts and many won't buy and many would leave.

Unfortunately, I doubt that the rental agent (be it TV rental or any other) can tell what the cart will be used for. If the right documentation is presented, how could the folks behind the counter know what was going to happen? I'd be more inclined to look at the grandparents or parents who are likely renting for them and hold them responsible.

The rental carts from the Villages Golf Carts have an ID number on them. Call the store and report them by using the id number. They will know to whom it has been rented and should be able to deal with it.
