About a month ago in the village of Caroline, a representative from OC knocked on each door, to tell us they were checking roof. A worker with ladder, checked every home that day. We were notified that roof was up to standard, (by mail) but noticed that people on next block, were getting a new roof. Looks like it was hit and miss with some homes. Glad to see people with problem roofs, are getting taken care of with new.

So I have to agree when you said "Looks like it was hit or miss." One benefit to those of us with defective shingles is that we now have roofs that are about 6 years newer than our neighbors with good shingles! I can't help wondering if Owens Corning has learned a lesson in that poor quality control in the manufacturing of the shingles can be (and has been) a costly mistake. Too many business now-a-days take the attitude that it's cheaper to deal with fixing mistakes later than it is to make sure their products are dependable in the first place... frequently at the inconvenience and frustration of consumers!

I am a little curious if OC is doing the inspections would they not have an advantage to not be as generous in determining defective shingles?

When you say defective and someone explain in what way they are defective? Is it possible to tell by just looking at the shingles? What are the signs. I would think if you bought a New home they should be replaced by the builder at no cost.

This is classic customer abuse. Some customers are having their homes reshingled becasue the Owens Corning Oakridge shingles were "no good". Some are getting labor and material covered and some are not even though the conditions are exactly the same, (e,g, timing, length of time, same warranties, etc.etc.). OC will pay for shingles but customer must pay for labor. allegedly some of this is in violation of Anti Trust cases where customers are to be treated equally. It would appear OC is shooting from hip in some cases. As an example I believe the warranty states they will not be responsible for the removal of the shingles but ignores who is responsible for the installation???
They just say the customer is responsible for ALL labor which is about 60-65% of the costs of replacements. Hopefully, the POA is continuing their evaluation of a Class Action suit against this alleged crime against Seniors. ![]() |

OC was in Amelia this week on Harston Trail checking out the rooftops. Most of the houses here were purchased in 2008. Our area has Oakridge Shingles .

Check local section, page C4, of today's (Friday) Daily Sun....a letter from the VHA on the OC shingle issue and an update on the process.
I t did state that the problematic was homes constructed between 1/1/07-12/31/10. Villages07, the article states OC will supply the shingles but they still refuse to pay for the labor to install. It also alludes to the fact they will now supply individual shingles as opposed to the entire roof, something they have agreed to in the past. The date they stated is the period they will cover, the defective shingles were installed on many homes prior to 2007 and after 2010. There appears to be a small difference between the two interpretations of the article. Could someone clarify or help us find the article. ![]() |

GN.... Hmmm, not on local c4 of my Friday Sun. I did a quick skim of the rest of the paper and didn't see a VHA roofing update.

Ok, thanks GN , guess you were quoting my post from 1/3. I thought perhaps there was a new "Friday" update.
As Roseanna Roseannadanna would say, never mind. I haven't seen any roof repair activity in the few blocks surrounding my home, which was constructed in March 2006.... So, I am still waiting to see if we are affected and/or will be contacted by OC. I do believe I have Oakridge shingles.

If you are getting the run around from OC or if they are asking you to pay for their defective material, contact the POA.

I'm not sure what problematic means but many homes built before 2007 have defective shingles. My home was built in 2006 and has defective shingles and I know of many other homes with the same Oakridge shingles. Up until recently OC replaced roofs and now that the problem has become common knowlege and more and more Villagers are learning that their roofs are defective OC is now playing hard ball and refusing to compensate home owners. The Warranty Office told us to wait until OC contacted us, it never happend. After losing valuable time we contacted OC ourselves and filed a claim. If you find yourself with this problem please contact the POA.

I too am a home owner affected by the defective shingles and like many others are awaiting an inspection. The recent POA article is troubling as OC and Village Home Warranty are so evasive. It appears a class action suit is awaiting OC if they waffle on this. Very sad that Village Home Warranty does not represent our "Friendliest Home Town".
