My 2008 house was originally painted with Color Wheel paints and sample tins left for touch-up. When I went to Color Wheel last week to get more, they used a Sherwin Williams code on the tin to create my refill tin. So at least they were using SW color codes to mix their colors.

They did say that a certain yellow pigment is no longer available and certain colors from a few years ago will no longer be available in exact matches which should not be a problem for full wall repaints.

Our house is also about 6 years old...back then, they seemed to use Color Wheel most everywhere. We've had painters since then complain that it is not a high quality paint. We used SW for interior painting. On a recent visit to the SW store, I was surprised to learn that TV was using SW on some new builds.

For our stucco exterior, the finish is still in good shape...some neighbors have already repainted, but mostly to change the color. We recently had our trim bands repainted a darker color for more contrast ... They had faded to almost the same as the primary color. The painter, Steve's Onsite Services, used SW paint. This facelift will probably buy us another 3+ years before we paint the rest of the house.

I was at the Sherwin Wiliams paint store a couple weeks back.
The guy there told me that TV was cutting down from 3 contractors to one - Colorwheel.

He also said there are about 50 shades of "Villages white" floating around, so be careful.

I asked my builder who is in the process of painting the hosue what is the manufacturer and he said it is SunColor...which he said is being used exclusively by TV as of 4/26.

Yes, if you see me out there on a ladder with brush in hand, you will know Anyone heard of them? I have to think, TV isn't going to use a paint that breaks down in a couple years. They want their product to be above standard..not below. This is not a small item like swapping out baseboard or blinds. Like always, they would do their research.

The villages uses Color Wheel when homes are first built cause it is inexpensive low quality paint. Exterior paint by color wheel will only last 3 to 4 years. Interior of new homes only have paint on trim(doors,frames ,and baseboards). All walls are just painted with primer. A good contractor( like us "Investment Painting") uses good quality Sherwin Williams paint. We advertise on TOTV. You can see our references under contractors and services section.

The above statements are not only biased, but NOT TRUE. Color Wheel is very good paint, not that Sherwin Williams is not, but to bash Color Wheel is not fair. We used Color Wheel to paint the inside and it is very good quality and covers very good. To say that the Villages only "primers" inside walls should tell you something. Color Wheel has a lady that will come to your house by appointment, with the color samples and help you pick the colors in your house with the light "in your house" and your furnishing. Her name is GLORIA and she is VERY GOOD. Anyone who has tried to pick colors in the store can testify how difficult and different it is to coordinate. We were told the trim paint was Sherwin Williams so we went to the store on 301 for some help. The person we talked to was NOT much help.

A good contractor( like us "Investment Painting"), you shouldn't have to toot your own horn, with all the people on this forum, let them speak for you.

Good grief. For the interior, who's going to stay with the "contractor white" used in a spec home and not have the place painted with paint of their own choosing?

There are many brands even better than Sherwin Williams according to professional painters we have hired over the years up north, and here. Benjamin Moore is one that pleases pro painters, as well as Behr and Valspar (Lowes carries that, I think).

Gosh. This kind of reverse selling doesn't work very well with me.

I say that any paint in the intense sun, high humidity and need for frequent power washing is gonna only look real good for around 3-4 years here.

My walls are not painted with just primer. We were there every day and I saw them put at least two coats of paint on.

The design team sent me Sherman Williams chips to choose from when the outside of our home had to be changed so it wouldn't be identical to one next door.

I think that as they learn they make even better choices as time goes on...the builders.

Most new tract homes are spray painted inside and out. The paint is usually thinned down to allow easy application. Also, the first coat is absorbed more by the raw unpainted siding and frame material. I had to repaint my current new home (not in TV) after 3 years. I used the same paint and color the developer used. I painted the house myself using brush and rollers. This coat lasted about 7 years. I repainted again using the same paint and method and this third coating has lasted well over 10 years. First coats of paint that are sprayed will never last as long as second/third coats that are brushed and rolled. Also, paint colors are identified by 5 digit Federal Standard Color Codes. If you get the color code, you can go to any manufacturer or sales outlet and get the same color paint (within reason). I usually mix all my paint together before I start painting to achieve color consistency throughout the entire batch.

Just checked my stash of old paint cans in the garage. The original paint used in 2004 was Sherwin Williams. The cans state it has a 15 year warranty. The guy who recently power washed the house said that it looked like it needed to be painted in about a year (of course, he also paints houses).

We had the interior repainted 3 years ago because we didn't like the colors and the contractor, Choices in Color Carolyn Campbell's husband, used Behr Paints.
