I would say the biggest part of his problem is not being able to effectively complain. He should have thought it through, organized his thoughts and restricted his complaint to HIS PROBLEM. Not his friend (the alleged Dr.), not his wife...his problem. Trying to read for comprehension, his problem is he couldn't check emails. He said nothing about SKYPE, floor plans or lot selection...only emails.

If having a connection to check emails was that important he should have worked it out prior to the visit. If it was that important while here he should have spoken to the Sales Dept. It's been my experience that TV goes out of their way to make all these people feel special, if he had opened his mouth and told them that the sale of two houses was contingent on a stinking $20 air card TV may have sent their goodwill ambassador GG over with an aircard and a box of cannolis (this is why she gets the BIG BUCKS-lol).

My initial response (and this one) was not intended to be snarky, just a little constructive criticism. If you want to be taken seriously get your act together.
I was not replying to the OP. I was replying the the post that was quoted in which "it never occurred to me that it might be provided free or as part of the purchase price in my new house. What a silly assumption." was said. The OP never said anything about wanting free internet in a home she purchases.
While the OP may not have complained in an effective manner, many here are lacking just as much in reading comprehension.
And thank you for the constructive criticism, but I have my act together quite nicely.

Redwitch, I totally agree. I introduced a friend of mine to this site (she has never visited TV). She lurked for one day and said "no way I want to live around these people."

This is NOT snarky? Embarrassing someone in public (that's what private messages are for) because words are misspelled or grammar is poor is being even semi-nice and is constructive criticism? Telling another human to get their act together is NOT snarky? I would really, truly hate to imagine what you consider snarky. Does snarky mean downright cruel to you?

According to Merriam-Webster:

"Definition of SNARKY

1: crotchety, snappish
2: sarcastic, impertinent, or irreverent in tone or manner <snarky lyrics>
— snark·i·ly adverb
Examples of SNARKY

<working all day with such snarky jerks is exhausting>

<with champagne as a lubricant, she unleashed an unending series of snarky comments for the duration of the wedding reception>

The writer at No. 10, Fred Mustard Stewart, died last February at 74. His obituary in The Guardian contained this snarky observation: “Year in, year out, the 600-page mark did not daunt him.” —Dwight Garner, New York Times Book Review, 24 Feb. 2008

Well stated Bob. Bought 1 hour after seeing the home (a Whispering Pine). We love it here. There is so much available that you really must pick and choose due to scheduling. Dosen't sound like the good Dr.is quite ready for this lifestyle.

I think some folks are comparing apples and oranges -- a LSV in one of TV's cottages is not the same as renting someone's home (even if a lifestyle visit). If you rent a home (even if a LSV), you're not guaranteed a bike; walking distance to a town square; a golf cart. If you're staying in TV's cottages, thinking you would have a phone and internet access is not unreasonable. These are NOT private homes -- these are houses set up specifically for short visits while sales people show you homes. It does not seem unreasonable that people staying in the cottages be given a simple warning (as senior citizen was) that there is no phone or internet in the premises. I doubt it would be all that difficult to set up a WiFi network for those areas specifically set up for LSVs.

The other thing to consider is that djm's original post was a copy of an email sent while he was obviously upset. Don't know about you, but I have a tendency to make typos, leave out words, say things I later regret when upset (tis one of the reasons I have a 24-hr rule about sending an email when upset and a 1-hr rule when replying in a forum when I don't like what is being said).

I sincerely doubt that a nice phrasing would have made a bit of difference to most responders -- they felt it was a petty complaint and treated it and djm as such. Just because it wasn't important to you when you were visiting doesn't mean it isn't important to the next person. djm tried to give people doing an LSV a head's up that there was no internet (obviously, no phone was not a big deal).

He told me he could not make it for a couple of hours and suggested I go somewhere for a few hours until he could come over. I told him I was settled in and did not wish to leave. Well, about two hours later he shows up. He admitted that when I called (his cell phone) he was on the golf course and wanted to finish his round, which he did. He was obviously a retiree working for The Villages and was on call. He clearly did not want to be bothered with doing his job. The way this was handled so unprofessionally left a very bad taste in my mouth.

On the same trip, actually just prior to visiting The Villages, I visited Terra Vista. It turned out the place they had rented to me for their lifestyle visit was not prepared. It was left very clean by the previous guests but had not been provided maid service. I called and a whole team of cleaning ladies came over within ten minutes and did a wonderful job, thoroughly cleaning the entire unit and providing fresh linens and towels. When I left a couple of days later the management voluntarily refunded my entire payment. That left a very good taste in my mouth!
And you decided to buy_________?

The OP's post in my view amounted to a non-issue. People a have purchased homes for centuries without the help of the internet.

DougB post hit the nail on the head.

I would like to hear The Villages explanation of why there is no internet service provided in these rentals, besides the salesperson saying I'm really, really, really sorry.

I can only hope their answer would not be "we want to get you out of the house and enjoying the lifestyle". I would personally go and strangle someone that thought in my retirement I need to be directed how to spend my day.

And I doubt they would have the balls to say because of cost.

So am I being snarky or surly as my husband now likes to refer to my attitude!!!

Some of us coming for LSVs are not yet retired. When my wife and I come (hopefully in January) we'll both be on vacation from our jobs - my wife runs her own business. Both of us require more than email for our work, and regularly travel with laptops so that in situations where we have to do work, we can.
We've come to expect that internet service will be available, either included or at an extra fee wherever we stay.
We'll have to adjust our expectations for our LSV, and plan accordingly.

I really don't believe that response was from the salesperson, I think the OP made it up.

Maybe the reason they don't provide WIFI is they don't have to, they seem to be doing just fine.

That is exactly what they said when we asked about Internet. They wanted us out and about. I need the Internet each day and simply took my laptop to the sales office each morning. They are happy to give a free password. Yes, we bought!

Gee-whiz !! Nine pages of Posts over such a trivial topic !
I have been here over a year and have always enjoyed reading most of the Threads .
Most are rationale and informative even when there are many divergent views .
This issue seems to have taken on a life -of -its-own . Could we all agree " enough said " and move on to something more constructive even " dog-poop "!
When I read the OP I said to myself " self just glad that these folks will not be living here " ! They sound like professional " whiners ". And then I moved on to read intelligent Posts .

Well if as many people have posted that have, and if as many people have looked that have, then maybe that many people are interested and would like to continue this post. It is awfully hot outside and this is an economical form of entertainment and I respectfully ask you to butt out if you find it trivial.

Wow ! Are you really offended ? " Butt out " ?

Is that style how you got to be a " Premium Member " .

Let me guess you lean very far " Left " and own a large number of cats and are a former GVT Clerical worker or an elementary school teacher !!
