Default Shopping and restaurants South of 44?

With all of the new construction in the southern area of The Villages and schools, does anyone know if there will be plans for a major shopping area such as what is located on 466? Within this, I mean a Super Walmart, department stores, Home Depot or Lowe's, etc.

We're all hoping that's what will go in at the north west corner of Meggison and Warm Springs.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot down here at this point. I know it will grow, hopefully before I die.

Doesn't seem to be anything planned soon. The mall in Ocala has your department stores - unfortunately the one in Leesburg closed some years ago. Your Lowe's and Home Depots are already sprinkled about - just not as heavily as Publix, nail and hair salons. You might want to follow the construction reports of member Goldwingnut for the most current reports https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...rchid=21665178

On 301 south of the turnpike directly across from the new Deluna village is 1800 ft. of retail frontage with the signs up offering the space. Don't know the depth or number of acres but 1800' is substantial. Also in the Sun the other day it was noted that retail is going to be built at 301 and 470 in the Sumterville area. It will get here eventually, lots of acres available not owned by TV.

In the meantime, the residents are happy just to have a Dollar General in Coleman.

Unlikely with Lowes at 466a. Most big box retailers cutting back on new stores. Fast food your best hope plus the usual Verizon, nail salon, etc. Brownwood still not what expected and likely never will

Keep in mind that the negative replies that you read are from those that don't live south of 44 and are saddened by all of the great happenings down here that they don't have up there. If shopping and the traffic that comes with it is something you want you'll have to live in the old sections where all of the 3 generation households are located.

Always wondered how often do people shop that one needs to be so close to retail. Our fresh veggies come from farmers market or planter, lots frozen from last season. Protein comes from hind quarter by local farmer, as do eggs. We don’t buy processed food.

Gas, Trader Joe’s, Whole Food, and commissary (we make it a 2 day trip, shop play golf) every 6-8 weeks. Amazon for everything else. Not a fan of Publix, Winn Dixie. Big box stores maybe couple times a year.

Just the opposite for me. I go to my "stomping ground" on 441 at least once per week, maybe more because of all the restaurants that line that area. For example....I shopped at Kohl's on line and had to do a return. Amazon returns are accepted at Kohl's too. I also purchased something at Kohl's and Michaels and went back the following day for something else. It takes me exactly 9 minutes to enter the Target parking lot from my driveway by car. I love the convenience. If I had to drive much farther, I would have to "plan" my trips and I do not want to do that.

Don't forget cremations places and financial services.

From the Square at LSL (by Starbucks) walk down the street towards Winn-DIxie and count how many Financial places there are on both sides. Either 8 or 9 including the one "coming soon" was a quick count the other day. Just about every retail business that goes out there's another Financial services coming in. Another one coming soon there and 2 new ones opened over the last 18 months. Didn't even look at any of the other streets.
