It has nothing to do with 25mph or 40 seconds. It has to do with the additional stress of following someone who is driving well under 17mph and usually isn't holding a constant speed. The only way to lower that stress is to make a pass so hopefully you are right about the next two miles.

Terribly unfortunate timing + speeding + a pedestrian doing the wrong thing = a big problem. Given that the likelihood of all three happening at the same time is low...

My biggest fear is meeting a pedestrian where the MMP bends to the right approaching a gate crossing. If I stay to the right to avoid a cat cutting the corner then I risk getting too close to a pedestrian. If I stay towards the center in case a pedestrian is coming then I risk getting too close to an oncoming cart.

Wildwood PD and the sheriffs are citing a Criminal Infractions for driving a golf cart capable of exceeding 20 mph.

They issue citations for “failure to register a motor vehicle,” which requires the individual to appear before a judge.
IMO LSVs are just as bad or worse than a cart going over 20 MPH. Nobody licensed LSV to go 5 extra miles over the speed limit, they are doing that anyway. The license them to go on streets 30 to 35. Every LSV I have clocked on B/V or Morse blvd was going 30 plus. I’ve even clocked them MMP going 30 when the path was beside B/V. IMO the new Chinese carts go well above 20 mph. Plus the extra long carts stay in there own lane on curves at street crossings. Wildwood now has force that can monitor traffic and expect to ramp up citations for income for city. Only thing they will be missing is flock camera’s…

“ I was behind a couple walking where the man was walking in the middle of the lane facing traffic”

Florida sunshine laws state on roads walk facing traffic on left edge of the road facing traffic. If 2 or more people are walking side by side that means they fall into single file line when traffic approach’s.

Quote from Florida 2026 Florida sunshine laws/ regulations.

“ (4) Where sidewalks are not provided, any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall, when practicable, walk only on the shoulder on the left side of the roadway in relation to the pedestrian’s direction of travel, facing traffic which may approach from the opposite direction.”

And the stink from their gas cart. A lot of people with gas carts think others pass them because they want to go faster. I pass you because I'm sick of inhaling your fumes.

Agreed. But if I'm going 14 for some ungodly reason (won't happen but hey, just IF)...and someone is coming up behind me, I will pull over at the next safe spot and let them pass. And then I'll do whatever it is that's distracting me that much, while I'm safely pulled over - and then return to the road and go my usual 19-20mph.

Fast carts aren’t the problem just like cars that can go above 70 mph aren’t the problem. If the driver doesn’t wear a seat belt in any vehicle, he is taking a risk, just like the 100,000 bike riders here, if they don’t wear a helmet they are at risk. Not my problem trying to protect them. You can have an idiot golf cart driver going 10 mph almost hitting bike riders or walkers or doing stupid stuff sharing the roads, its not the cart.
Whether i can go 18mph or 28mph, it’s the driver (car or golf cart) that is a problem. If I am going 20mph and some clown is going 14mph because he is trying to look at all the alligators, who is the problem? So now a line of carts are forming behind and people are going to get desperate wanting to pass and they have every right too. Slow drivers cause most of the issues, golf cart or car!!! If you have somebody that is going faster than you, within the speed limit or faster, the slow drivers cause most should just pull over and let them pass, but most people won’t. I’ve driven on Germany’s Autobohn over 150mph and its safer there at those speeds than here in the states at 70 because Germany has strict laws, for 1: you can’t pass on the right so if you are in the left lane going 150mph and you see somebody coming up behind you, you have to pull over to the right lane so they can pass without slowing down. This is how it should be here too, golf cart path or on the streets.
Best post on this thread!!!

Slow carts maybe, slower carts nope, you just have a convenient excuse to want people to get out of your way. But a slower cart is not the cause of your accident.

The time difference to arrival at 25 mph vs 20 mph at 2 miles away is 40 seconds. .

you really can't imagine your errors at a miniscule but not zero probability. .

good luck in your race against time
Actually, 2 miles at 25 mph takes 4 min 48 sec and at 20 mph 6 min 0 sec, for a difference of 72 seconds. But the point is well taken, if not the math

So, that behavior makes the individual exhibiting it:

a) A law enforcement officer
b) a self-appointed enforcer of speed
c) the dictator of the cart paths

So, unless that individual has a badge----PULL OVER AND LET THE CLOWN PASS.

Non-police officers do not get to dictate speed to others

It reminds me of the post about 8 years ago when someone stated they always drive 30 mph in the left of 3 lanes of 466 posted at 45 because THEY think that's fast enough. Quite a sense of entitlement to believe they control the behavior of others He might get shot one day.

I stand by my original statement. You can do whatever you want. I’m not dictating anything, just following the rules.

Just following the rules? That’s easy. The rule is that when someone wants to pass, you let them. Doesn’t matter how fast you’re going, doesn’t matter how fast they’re going, the only requirement is that you DO NOT obstruct them. That’s not your job unless you wear a badge

I would not obstruct someone behind me but I am not obligated to pull over to let them pass. If I am unable to maintain my speed for some reason then I certainly would pull over but that would be out of courtesy not obligation.

I never said that I wouldn’t let them pass, that’s up to them. I’m just not going to pull over. What if you were on a two lane road going the speed limit, and some jerk comes up behind wanting to pass, would you pull off the road and let them go?

I guess we were talking apples and oranges. I agree with both of those posts, I wouldn’t pull off the road either. But to those going 12—get out of the way!

It says more about this person's maturity (speeding up just to prevent someone passing) than any problem with faster carts. We've all met this kind of person, and avoid them.
