Typically, I do not get into this type of discussion. I found it difficult to avoid when so many generalities were used by the original post. I understand this is/was their feelings on houses not owner occupied. The original post was the attack. The posts that followed, defended their feelings on being lumped into a negative group without facts. How can this not be taken personally? |

Wow! Lots of attitude.
I look at the high season as normal because, like other communities, the houses are all occupied, whether with owners or renters. Amenities are in high demand; golf course times are in short supply (shorter days with more players); restaurants have waiting lines. Truth is there are workarounds for all these. Go or sign up early for classes; be less choosy about course and time or accept that you may not play as many times per week as desired; eat at home more or earlier at restaurants. I consider the rest of the year as not normal. Many of my friends are not here. The overall energy in the community is lower. Clubs don't meet over the summer either because of the heat or fewer members present. Don't get me wrong, though. I do enjoy being able to decide to play golf and get a time on a desired course same day. I do enjoy quicker access to restaurants. We came here from San Diego where we had the visitors in the winter from colder climes, then the ones in the summer from Arizona escaping the heat. So it was year 'round. I like it here!

It might be safe to say that the majority of us started out as "snowbirds", enjoying the vacation times here for some years, staying longer with each visit and then looking at making a change in our lives, selling the home and all that we had for many years, for some an easy choice and others very difficult. That snowbird that is renting a place in your neighborhood may very well be someone that will become a neighbor or a friend in the future in part by how they were treated by you, made to feel welcome no matter how long they rented, or shared a table in a busy restaurant, a bench in one of the Squares, or a golf partner when making reservations to play.
So, enjoy our time here for as long as we have......... |

Don't see it that way! Restaurant host/hostess assigns tables to diners [or diners to tables]...and it seems that golfers are not always amenable to those assignments - especially when required to WAIT for all parties to be present before being seated.

Hi everyone.............I am a "snowbird......snowflake......homeowner..........g osh, I am not sure what I am! Anyway, even I am glad when the snowbirds go, and I AM ONE! I am from Connecticut but live mostly in The Villages. It does get hectic in the winter months here but this past year CT had horrible weather and we were really glad to be here.
I have made wonderful friends here and am thankful for this lifestyle. Even though I am somewhat of a snowbird I keep my home in great shape, keep the yard well manicured all year long and support the Villages Homeowners Association. |
