Have to disagree with you on this one at least near where I live. Maybe because I live not too far from a roundabout near LSL, and Morse Blvd is right behind my house, I see (and hear), a number of cars and especially trucks traveling faster than posted limits.
Alas, I don't see any law enforcement vehicles...sigh....wish I did near these particular locations.

I see Sumter County deputies on Buena Vista (near Bridgeport at Lake Sumter) at least once a month. Usually with two or more cars waiting for their ticket! But, I agree completely that they're not around often enough!

No one's mentioned speeding golf carts, which are my pet peeve. But, of course, those folks might be late for their tee time!

If u saw Sunscape truck racing past ur house, u r more fortunate than I am. I have tried to get them back to my house for repairs since I paid them in full and have been unsuccessful. That was 6 months ago. Maybe if they go a little faster to and from jobs, they will have time to come back to my house.

One; let's vote for the implementation of citizen's arrest...it is not legal in FL. Such a pity. I would gladly turn in the speeders I see/experience daily and meet them in front of the judge. My experience over 5 years would conclude, most of the speeding is by residents....hands down.

Secondly establish the VSPS ....Vigilante Speeder Persecution Squad. Radar gun, camera and cell phone.

And for giggles and squirts, let's tell all three county sheriffs we support doubling the size of their respective police forces with the objective of nailing the speeding issue once and for all. The revenue will more than pay the tab. Then TV will get a reputation like some of the small towns we all know about that has the sheriff who will nail you for one mph over in his town.

Why not?

I have heard most of my life about small towns with deputies out nailing folks for doing 1mph over the limit. I've never seen it, though. Has anyone here ever seen it? I don't mean heard a friend of a friend who knows someone who got a ticket for it. I have seen speed traps in a lot of places, but the only ones I have seen them cite are the ones who are passing everyone in sight and changing lanes constantly to do so.

I am all for enforcement of the speed limit for any and all who speed. Why else would we have the law? Isn't it intended to maintain the safest possible driving environment? Or should we just forget it and let everyone drive the speed they feel they are capable of and let every one fend for themselves on the roads?

I think the point is that those who choose to do 50-60mph in TV are posing a danger to all of us, and my wife and occasionally kids and grandkids are on these roads. Ask the ladies who were forced to run off the road on Canal St. and their families what they think.

What if we all called the sheriff's office every time we see a speeder. Would they eventually get the message.
What about calling your county commissioner (2 of them live in TV) once a week to report the speeders that you saw that week.
I am for law enforcement but not a new police department of any kind in TV. I would however, be in favor of adding additional deputy sheriff patrol cars dedicated to TV.

Ya all missed the whole point of the original post. If you, that is you, not someone who saw someone speed called the company owner of a speeding employee and that happened often enough it would most likely work. But don't keep getting side tracked. Stick to the fact of what you and only you saw.

Another good point is to call the local sherif. If it happens enough they will respond.

Two weekends ago I saw the sherif and a state police car pulling speeders over on Morse. I saw them both going to my destination and then coming back. Very effective. So I think they may be doing their job but they can't be everyplace all the time.

I still think homeowners calling company owners would be very effective.

Personally the most common violators that I have seen has been us. Usually doing 40 to 45 on a 35MPH road.

Drivers of some of the newer street-legal golf cars are some of the worst offenders, in my opinion. They appear to think that they can drive at highway speeds on the multi-modal paths (where they probably shouldn't be anyway). Even some of the non-street legal carts cut cars off and make riding very dangerous for anyone sharing the road with them, especially bicyclists.

Call the Home Warranty Dept. They have a list of all contractors working in TV. They will deal with them I'm sure.

I've found that the problem isn't the contractors and their people but rather the lawn people. TV is pretty strict about the rules for those who work for them -- they have to go back routes to sites, no speeding, etc. If they are found to break the rules, they are actually suspended from working for TV or being on TV property for a certain amount of time. So, for them, definitely call TV. Something will be done.

However, the lawn people are another issue -- they usually are rushing from one home to another and seem to care less about what is in their way. If you bother calling the number on their vehicles, you will usually reach the offending driver since the driver is the owner. An exercise in futility.

I do have an acquaintance who claims she got a ticket for going 3 mph over the speed limit on BV. Not sure I believe her but worth knowing. The sheriffs are out as much as they can to ticket/warn. However, local towns and counties are pretty short on cash and the staff required to have speed traps set up probably isn't readily available. Maybe we should go the British route -- cameras take pix of speeders (not just red light runners) and tickets are mailed to the owner of the vehicle, which, hopefully, would include golf carts. You have to prove you weren't driving your vehicle and that isn't all that easy.

Where have you ever seen a speed limit sign on multi modal paths ?
