A friend and I went for lunch today around 11:30. The place was pretty crowded but we were seated in a booth. I ordered a Rise and Shine burger which was a burger, smoked bacon, fried egg, caramelized onions and gruyere cheese on a brioche roll. My side was cole slaw. My friend had a crab burger with a side of onion rings. She also ordered a vanilla shake. I ordered my burger rare and it came out a little bit more on the medium rare side but was fine. However, the burger was difficult to eat as it was greasy which in my opinion gave it flavor. I had to eat it with a fork. I wish that the onions were cooked a little bit more. When I think of caramelized onions I think of crispy onions. The cole slaw tasted good except that there were some bits of onion and green peppers in it which I could have preferred that they be left out of cole slaw. As to the crab burger my friend said it was spiced a little bit too much for her liking but she felt that a lot of people would probably like it that way.
I don't mean to be that negative as I will return to Square One and try something else and not order cole slaw as a side dish. Just wanted to be honest. When we left about 12:15 there was a line waiting. John

When my husband and I ate there,
I noticed that some burgers had mayo on them. When you put mayo on something hot, it melts, and that is probbly what makes their burgers "juicy." Carmelized onions are never crispy. They are sauteed very slowly, taking on a brown color, but still very soft. When prepared this way, they take on a much sweeter flavor. I think you may be thinking of onion straws which are fried, thin and crispy.

Non happy hour draft beer is $5.00, also too expensive. The best deal there is on wednesday, the onion stack is $3.00. Onion stack and water w/ lemon. cheap snack............ |

The problem with ANY restaurant review can be summed up by John's line quoted above. The menu says caramelized onions but John did not associate that with the proper item. His fault? Sure, (I'm sure they would have substituted crispy onion strings if he had asked) but readers need to read all restaurant reviews with that understanding. Best bet: Try it for yourself and then decide if you want to go back. |

Caramelizing onions, by slowly cooking them in a little olive oil until they are richly browned, is a wonderful way to pull flavor out of the simplest of ingredients.) |

The state of Florida would and does disagree.....
If you see dogs on patios that concern you then follow the instructions below. Complaining on this site and even to the offenders does nothing but the health inspector will make a difference. Even if they have the required permit there are many requirements they must meet which are outlined on the website link at the bottom and here. http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/.../0509.233.html Only Cody's has a permit _______________________ Taken From Another Thread On This Subject: _________________ The responsive official from the Sumter (no p) County Government answered my email asking if any restaurants had permits for non-service dogs to be allowed in the outdoor dining areas. Only Cody's in LSL has such a permit. Here is his email: Presently, Cody’s Road House in Lake Sumter Landings in The Villages is the only restaurant in Sumter County permitted under Section 13-735 of the Land Development Code. If you have observed dogs being allowed into outdoor dining areas in unpermitted restaurants, please advise me and I will contact the restaurant to advise them of the permit requirements. If you have visited Cody’s Road House and believe they are not complying with the requirements of their permit, please also let me know and I will assign an inspector to review their compliance. If you have any additional questions, please contact me. Karl E. I don't understand why everyone is getting so upset about dogs at Square 1 preventing others from sitting outside...let's see is it the view of a parking lot or the pleasant aroma from car exhausts as they drive by.
If a restaurant has a policy allowing dogs and you don't like, go somewhere else. If you have a peanut allergy I am sure you don't go to Five Guys, if you have a severe shellfish allergy I am sure you don't go to Bone Fish. There are plenty of restaurants. If you really thought about it, I would be more concerned with how my food is being prepared...do you think the waiters wash their hands after clearing each table and touching the dirty plates, glasses and silverware, before they bring you your glass or plate. Oh, and that chair you're sitting on...how do you know the person before you didn't have a little accident. I have lived in 14 states and traveled the world, and I have been to pet friendly restaurants in most of these places...I guess I am lucky because I have never gotten a disease from a dog sitting under a table. I love my dog...no, he doesn't go everywhere with me. But for those who do take their animals everywhere....it's good to know there are places that will cater to their need. |
