We may all do it all the time....but regardless it's against the law. So all I can say if you feel the law doesn't apply to you...well, if you get caught pay the ticket and don't complain. You were in the wrong!

I will say this. Speed traps don't bother me. Profiling doesn't bother me. I guess these things would if they started nailing me every breath.

My true hatred, and one that I agree is a way to rob the public, is the cursed traffic cameras that picture and ticket automatically. I have never gotten one, but have you noticed that the yellow lights at these intersections aren't quite as long in duration, or is it just me?

You have made some pretty strong accusations in this thread Ajack.

Robbery is the crime of taking or attempting to take something of value by force or threat of force and/or by putting the victim in fear.

I fail to see where imagination will reduce accidents.

I agree education is effective. That is why offenders are required to attend "traffic school".

I also think "money talks". I also think points on one's license talks.

I am sorry you feel fines for traffic violations are solely for making money. I doubt very much if reading posts favorable to the system will change your view. I hope you never experience a personal tragedy involving a traffic violation. If you do it might change your view. You might decide the law enforcers are not doing enough to control traffic violators.

Oh I see. Some laws you like and some you don't.

So where do you draw the line? A speed trap or any other trap is a no-no? But if you get caught alone running the stop sign that ticket is okay?

As far as the money maker angle - the revenue may hurt the individual (isn't that the idea?) but it certainly doesn't contribute all that much to Sumter County. Next year's budget is close to $150 million. Revenue expected from judgements, fines, and forfeits (non-court): $66,000. Revenue from all court appearances: $620,000. So less than $700,000 out of the whole budget.

But wait, that number doesn't break down motor vehicle violations from other fines and fees collected through the court system.

Parking tickets
Pedestrian tickets
Public intoxication
Disorderly conduct
Expired vehicle registration
Boating violations
Truck violations
No insurance
Crimes that get fines and no jail time
etc.

I have experienced personal tragedies from traffic violations and I'll take your condescending attitude with a grain of salt, thank you.

I have also been caught in expensive speed traps with over-bearing cops with an attitude. Granted, I was many years younger, but the bitter taste lingers, if you know what I mean.

Jeez, all of this, when the OP mentioned cops were pulling people over for rolling thru the stop sign in front of Sonny's. Now we're into points of law etc., etc. It's a stop sign for Pete's sake.

It seems talk host is somewhat hypocritical about rolling threw a stop sign. I came to almost a complete stop(rolled thru Stop Sign) sign at calumet grove turning right on to Buna Vista when i saw this blue Navigator heading south on Buna Vista with a right turn signal on. I turned right onto Buna Vista. He went pass his turn and passed me doing more than 50 mph by Nancy Lopez I was doing 40 mph. He cut in front of me so he could turn into the Chatham gate. This happened last year.

Last year, we sat by one of the windows at Bravo Pizza and watched the cars that don't stop for the signals...23 of them within a short time and then we stopped counting. Makes it seem like brakes, turn signal indicators, and stopping before turning right, drop out of cars at the Georgia/Florida line.

Yea, that was my thought, also. Maybe somebody with nothing else to do, probably dropped a few dimes to the locals cops.

got a lot of mileage out of this post, one last post from me, if you roll thru a stop sign at 1 MPH with no other cars approaching, IMO, no harm done, no enforcement needed, need to move on....gn

So, you are taking the liberty of saying this was me. So I guess you have some sort of proof that you didn't make this up. So I guess that you have some sort of proof that what you are saying in public was in fact me. To my knowledge, I have never driven 50 miles an hour on Buena Vista, and I believe that you have fabricated this story in order to undermine my creditability. Or you have taken some normal driving and retooled it, added a few facts of your own.

Boy you sure speed up fast to 40 miles per hour from a stop sign in order to catch this person in a blue Navigator doing 50 miles per hour who cut you off. And wow, at those speeds you could see it was me.

Why am I even bothering to answer this nonsense. This is your first post in over a year.

Proper driving etiquette: stay to the right except to pass.
And another one that most people forget or are unaware of: When turning, turn completely into the lane closest to you before moving into the other lane. (Don't fade right when making a left turn or don't fade left while turning right.)

I think some of this is getting a bit too personal. We all have our opinions. When we start attacking one another with wild accusations it may be time to end the thread.
