You probably are correct Mrs. Barefoot. I have found that the people who have crossed my path in life with the most money and deepest pockets were miserable because they had alligator arms and couldn't reach their funds to enjoy life.

We will never live in fear in TV'S, except the weather a little bit we left most of the feeling of fear behind us.

You dont's have to have bollards, concrete planters would work- can't imagine a piece to 6" galvanized pipe filled with concrete and painted being that expensive

Concrete planters every 6ft ringing the squares?.... No thanks.

What about when there are parades?
That would be a much easier target.

I received my concealed weapon permit in 2011, at that time Florida has issued 900,000. With a population of 19 million that meant about 1 in 20 was carrying. The latest I've seen is now we have 1.5 million concealed weapon permits, that's about 1 in 13. As someone posted earlier, we see these mass shooting in the states with strict gun laws, why, because they know only the people wearing a uniform is going to shoot back. In Florida, not the same, in fact with the military background of so many Villagers, I'm sure our quota is probably 1 in 10 is carrying. I think if someone were to try something at one of the squares they would be in serious jeopardy before the police ever arrived. The Pulse nightclub shooting is a perfect example of gun laws, that's one of the places a concealed carry permit is not allowed, a nightclub. I'm sure the shooter was aware of that.

You get what you pay for.

Galvanized pipe will twist like a pretzel.

Steel pipe, buried at least three feet in the ground, with the pipe filled with concrete, is the standard to stop a truck.

If you made the foolhardy decision not to bury the bollards, but rather to simply bolt them to the concrete, you wouldn't have security.

And...........that's only the cost of the bollards. Getting them sunk into the ground by cutting hundreds of holes into concrete is very labor intensive and expensive.

Has anyone mentioned how unattractive a great mass of bollards looks? Yuk.

Why was the nightclub in Orlando targeted? Perhaps because it catered to homosexuals, a group that is particularly despised by Radical Muslim Terrorists.

I doubt that a community of old geezers gets much attention from Terrorists seeking targets.

Default Bollards etc.

[QUOTE=Chatbrat;1437076]After the events in Europe, IMHO our town squares should have bollards or heavy planters to prevent vehicles from entering the center of the squares where people dance , etc

Also, protective bollards should be erected to protect the entrances and box offices of the theaters where people line up to purchase tickets

We are very, very vulnerable-remember a terror attack happened in Orlando-

Yes, I agree, bollards or other stops can be very effective.
And, I agree with you entirely, if we just stick our head in the sand then we are certainly likely to overlook the danger. It is there, it is all over as this country and the world is getting more liberal and loose and then " It won't happen to us!" Best to be prepared, for sure. I will write the office but who knows? Sort of like the smoker or the e pipe user who is saying that they will be spared of a disease etc.

Mr.b6, there is a difference between sticking your head in the sand and living a quality of life based upon rational thinking. Seems like that small batch of global terrorists are getting to you. Relax and save your penmanship for another day.
