Default Tipping

We do tip some of the workers who do work for us, depending on the project. Example, we moved last week, and we tipped the 3 workers who moved our furniture for a great job. But did not tip the owner.

I keep several bottles of water in the refrigerator and offer them to the workers.

We tip all of the contractors also and amount is based the same as above. I never knew to do that but am proud hubby is so generous. He also leaves $5/day for the maid/housekeeper anytime we stay at hotel. Never knew to do that before either. In today’s times even more important.

We do show our appreciation to those workers who do a great job!!

For example, we had 2 extra large palms removed from our courtyard, and 9 men here with equipment, and they did not miss a beat, very professional and job well done. Besides paying a huge sum for removal, we paid all 9 workers a nice tip and provided lunch. They were so appreciative. Very respectful.

Yes I tip. The amount varies depending on the job the work being done and the workers. It’s my way of giving back to those in the community.

The two men who moved us in nine years ago charged way too little. They worked and helped and were stellar. We insisted they take much more than they asked for.

However we only "tip" these folks at Christmas;

Lawn people, Pool people, Trash people. We don't hire anyone to trim the bushes or clean the house.

Is this getting to be a battle as to who is the most decent human being? Money is power. If you don't spend it, you still have it, to keep yourself independent and to help others. Only God is interested in how you disperse it and only He knows what is in your heart.

I believe that tipping contractors is more geographic in origin than it is an ethical or Miss Manners issue. Midwesterners didn't tip the Vet when he came to castrate the bull calves.

We tipped the workers from the moving company when we moved in. We also leave a nice gift or money at holidays for workers who frequent our home such as housekeepers or landscapers. Other than that we do not tip. For a single job a quote is a quote and we have found them to be excessive in The Villages. If the boss is not paying their workers appropriately it is not my responsibility to cover. We do however provide beverages and snacks/food if they are at the house more than a few hours.

We never do. They are paid well and we have a contracted price. Not like they serve you in a restaurant or anything like that.

We will tip depending upon the circumstances but tipping has gotten out of hand.

When cashiers at restaurants have a tip jar, tipping has gotten a bit over the top,
